PopularYouTubecreator Colleen Ballinger, best known for her character Miranda Sings, has responded to multiple grooming allegations in perhaps the strangest way possible, with a 10-minute-long ukulele song that seems to make fun of the situation. At first, it seems like it’s going to be another of theYouTube “apology” videosthat have been the subject of some mockery in the past, but Ballinger takes a different approach entirely.

Ballinger had remained silent about the allegations, until she uploaded a video to her Colleen Vlogs channel. In the 10-minute-long video, Ballinger pulls out an ukulele, and breaks into a spoken song. The melody has plenty to say about the allegations, describing them as a “toxic gossip train chugging down the tracks of misinformation,” and a “one-way ticket to manipulation station.” She claims during the song that her team has strongly advised her against saying what she wants to say, calling the situation “lies and rumors that you made up for clout.” TheYouTube scene is no stranger to drama, but this kind of bizarre ballad is brand-new territory.
To say people were unimpressed would be an understatement.YouTube comment sectionscan be a brutal place at the best of times, and this was certainly no different. One comment claims the video “walks a fine line between offensively inappropriate and so hilariously out of touch I can’t stop laughing,” while “zero remorse” and “every manipulation tactic in the book” were other phrases used by commenters to describe the bizarre footage. For many, it doesn’t seem to be the denial that has irked them – rather the manner in which it was performed, which seems to make light of a serious situation.
With Ballinger’s video now on YouTube for all to see, only time will tell how this situation will develop. Ballinger’s stance on the matter has been made clear, and several of her Miranda Sings tour shows have gone ahead as planned in the meantime. With so many stories of YouTube drama and alleged crimes by creators, many understandably feel quite down about the site’s community right now. It’s not all doom and gloom, though. Uplifting news likeAnthony and Ian’s reunion to purchase Smoshis still happening on YouTube every day, so there’s still plenty to get excited about on the site.
