Each new phase forWorld of Warcraft Classic:Season of Discoverybringsnew Runes for every class, including a variety of new Mage Runes forSoD Phase 4. In addition to new P4 Mage Runes for the Cloak slot, there are a variety of Mage Ring Runes to choose from which grant a variety of skill bonuses, intended to level the playing field at max level.
Though there are lots of new Mage Runes that complement those introduced inPhase 1 and Phase 2, and inPhase 3, some of these older Runes may have been removed and replaced, or changed entirely. This guide details what the new Mage Cloak Runes and Mage Ring Runes do in SoD P4, and explains what (if any) Runes were removed and replaced with new options.
Updated July 15, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: There are three new SoD P4 Mage Cloak Runes, and several new Phase 4 Mage Ring Runes, that players can collect in the latest phase for Season of Discovery. After a particularly productive weekend after the release of SoD Phase 4, Mage Runes locations have all been discovered. This guide has been updated to include detailed instructions to find all new Mage Runes Phase 4 introduced, including specific coordinates to help you hone in on the exact location of every new Mage Rune SoD P4 players can get.
Arcane Barrage Effects
How To Get Arcane Barrage Rune: The SoD Arcane Barrage Rune location is actually only unlocked by reading more Books, as a continuation of the Greater Friend of the LibrarySeason of Discoveryquest that has gained more steps, and more books to read, with every Phase. Thsi time, you need to read a total of 35 books, so be sure to keep an eye out and read any book that you’re able to. The Stormwind Library can give you a good head start, as can dungeons with lots of books like the Scarlet Library wing, but for the most part, these books are spread out all over Azeroth.
Frozen Orb Effects
How To Get Frozen Orb Rune: The Phase 4 Frozen Orb Rune location is in Felwood. Defeat Deadwood Furbolg enemies until you get the Mysterious Darnassian Scroll item. Consume a Comprehension Charm to get the Deciphered Darnassian Scroll. Then, head to around (60,13) to find Calyx Greenglow, a Night Elf NPC who wanders this general area. He will give you the quest “Healing the Healer”, after which you should defeat Irontree Stomper enemies in Felwood until you get the Unusual Flask. Finally, go to Winterspring and find Calyx Greenglow once again. Defeat the Enraged Shade to get the Frozen Orb rune.
Overheat Effects
How To Get Overheat Rune: The SoD Overheat Rune location is in the Western Plaguelands. You’ll need to use Fire Spells on a series of four Novice Frost Mage enemies to unfreeze them. Each one also requires you to use the Remove Lesser Curse ability after being unfrozen, and each gives you one of four Torn Spell Notes. The four Novice Frost Mage locations are in Dalson’s Tears, Felstone Field, Gahrron’s Withering, and the Writhing Haunt. Combine all four Torn Spell Notes to create this Rune.
If you defeat the Novice Frost Mages, you’ll need to wait until they respawn to try again without killing them.
New Mage Ring Runes In P4
All Mage Ring Runes follow the same unlock method – find specific books somewhere in the world, and you will unlock Ring Runes that boost your Skill for particular class weapons and spell specializations. At Max Level, against elite higher-than-60 mobs, having a +5 to your weapon or spell skills makes it significantly less likely that you will miss attacks and casts.
Thesenew Runes give every classthe ability to boost two of their Weapon Skills, Spell Specializations, or Defense Skills by a small, but not insignificant, amount. When it comes to new Mage Ring Runes,WoW SoDplayers have six choices.
How To Get Arcane Specialization Rune: To find the Arcane Specialization Rune location, head to the Western Plaguelands to Hearthglen in the far north. This SoD Ring Rune book is located around the coordinates (46, 16).
How To Get Fire Specialization Rune: To find the Fire Specialization Rune location, head to the Searing Gorge to the Slag Pit and look for Overseer Maltorius’s room, above the Archeologist area of the Slag Pit, where the Red Book is found on a table. This SoD Ring Rune book is located around the coordinates (40.5, 35.5).
How To Get Frost Specialization Rune: To find the Frost Specialization Rune location, go to Winterspring and head south until you find the Owlbeast camp (the one east of the path, opposite the three caves in a gorge on the world map). This SoD Ring Rune book is located around the coordinates (59, 59).
How To Get Dagger Specialization Rune: To find the Dagger Specialization Rune location, head to the far southwest of Silithus to the Burning Blade camp and look for this Red Book in one of the first tents. This SoD Ring Rune book is located around the coordinates (20.5, 19.5).
How To Get Pole Weapon Rune: To find the Pole Weapon Specialization Rune location, head to the Temple or Arkkoran in Azshara and look for this Rune Specialization book on top of an altar. This SoD Ring Rune book is located around the coordinates (78, 38).
How To Get Sword Specialization Rune: To find the Sword Specialization Rune location, go to Deadwind Pass to Karazhan and look for a cave near the Master’s Cellar. This SoD Ring Rune book is located around the coordinates (43, 74.5) inside this cave.
