Now,World of Warcraftis adding a new featureto make the Duel to the Death mechanic even more serious. Like a normal duel, Duels to the Death can be canceled if a player leaves the battlefield, allowing the player to live another day. However,World of Warcraftnow gives these players the fitting Coward! debuff; a debilitating penalty that decreases all attributes, damage, resistance, and armor by 20% for three days.

To compensate for this debuff,World of Warcraftis increasing the duel area for Duels to the Death, so players don’t accidentally run out of bounds while kiting their opponent. Additionally, bespoke logic is being used with the Coward! debuff to prevent crowd control effects, such as being Feared by a Warlock, to trigger it as well. It isWorld of Warcraft’s intention to ensure only true cowards who flee from these high-stakes duels get the debuff, which is designed to be especially punishing.

Players got a huge kick out of this new debuff. Duels to the Death, initiated with the lore-appropriate command /makgora, are one of the most highly-anticipated features to theClassicHardcore Realms forWorld of Warcraft, and many agree Coward! debuff is another excellent addition to the system. Some Hardcore players even think the debuff should last even longer than a few days. Regardless, many fans would love it if /makgora was eventually added to RetailWoW.

Classic WoWis adding a few other new features to the Hardcore Realms as well. Players will be able to customize the death alert messages for their guild, see how and where players in their guild die, acquire PvP trinkets by spending Gold rather than Honor, and experience unique sounds for Duel to the Death challenges and Hardcore announcements. All of these changes will be added to the Public Test Realm soon, and will be a part of theofficial Hardcore Realms onceWorld of Warcraft Classiclaunches them.
