Summary

Elon Musk’s Twitter has been consistently generating headlines since the billionaire bought the social media platform back in late 2022. The latest news story is therebranding from the iconic Twitter nameto the new and more ambiguous X. This has garnered attention for a number of reasons, but few could’ve expected the move to particularly rile up theKingdom Heartscommunity.

Understanding exactly what it is about the change from Twitter to X that affectsKingdom Heartsplayers so much will require some understanding of the lore of the games. The lore of the popular Disney andFinal Fantasycrossover is notoriously confusing, but in this context, it’s not so hard to get where all the memes are coming from.

Twitter Has Been Norted

The change of Twitter to X along with the site’s new heavy usage of the color black holds a lot of parallels withXehanort’s Organization 13 inKingdom Hearts. A post on theKingdom Heartssubreddit compiles some hilariously shocking similarities, like the fact that the Twitter bird was trademarked 13 years ago or the fact that this change took place in July, the 7th month of the year.

InKingdom Heartslore, the numbers 7 and 13 are essentially the cornerstones of the entire story, and they’re brought up repeatedly throughout the series. At the root of theKHlore is a story about the original Keyblade, known as the X Blade, that was broken into 20 pieces, seven of light and 13 of darkness. There’s a prophecy that seven wielders of light will come together to oppose 13 wielders of darkness to save Kingdom Hearts, and thus the entire universe. Those 13 wielders of darkness are Xehanort and the members of the Organization, while the seven wielders of light are, as of right now, supposed to be Sora, Mickey, Riku, Lea, Aqua, Ventus, and Kairi. Granted, none of this is set in stone, and which characters fight for which sides tends to change with each new title, like Axel leaving Organization 13 and becoming his true self, Lea, in the process.

The name X itself is also the smoking gun that many point to when it comes to the similarities between Musk’s social media platform and Xehanort’s shadowy collective. Every member of Organization 13 gets a new name, which is always an anagram of their old name with an added X. Lea’s Organization 13 name is Axel, Sora’s nobody is Roxas, Ansem’s is Xemnas, and so on. Granted, the pothole here is that X isn’t an anagram of Twitter with an X added, but it’s just an X all by its lonesome.

Everyone on Twitter is Losing Their Hearts on X

All of these coincidences surrounding Twitter’s rebranding have led theKingdom Heartscommunityto make some pretty hilarious fan theories, like Elon Musk actually being Master Xehanort or Twitter getting “Norted.” Memes have been flying all over theKingdom Heartssubreddit and X about users joining Organization 13 and wearing the signature black cloaks seen throughout the series.

The details of anyplans Elon Musk has for the futureof what is now called X are mostly unknown as of right now. Odds are, the reality is probably not as fantastical as an adventure through Disney worlds to slay untold Heartless and Nobodies, but at least theKingdom Heartscommunity is getting some memes out of it.
