Over the past couple months, there have been a multitude of rumors and speculation regarding who the nextSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC character will be. Some rumors have more legitimacy than others, and it is totally possible the nextSuper Smash Bros.DLC character is none of these, but the rumors and leaks have been nonstop and given such a wide range of possibilities.
In September, Nintendo announced thatTerry BogardfromKing of Fightersand other SNK fighting games would be the next character to join theSmash Bros Ultimateroster. Almost two months have passed since that announcement and no word yet on when Terry will be coming to the game. But with this announcement came the unveiling of a new character pack 5, meaning more characters are coming to the game in 2020. Here is a list of everyone rumored and how likely we think they are to make it all the way to the fight inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Ryu Hayabusa
Ninja Gaidenfor the Xbox is one of the greatest action games of all time. Of course, those 3D games never came to Nintendo platforms, but they are based off the original sidescrollingNinja Gaidengames for the NES. Ryu Hayabusa is maybe the most iconic ninja in gaming and there have been rumors thatRyu is coming toSmash. Multiple rumors and speculation have suggested Ryu will come in December, but there is not much actual evidence to support his inclusion.
Lloyd Irving
Who is Lloyd Irving is a good question that it may be time to answer. Lloyd is the main character fromTales of Symphonia,an absolute favorite among fans of the JRPG series andhis inclusion in the game is extremely possible. There is actual evidence to support that Lloyd Irving is coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.Last month, voice actor Scott Menville, who played Lloyd in the original game, tweeted that he is working on a “cool voice-over project” that he had to sign an Non-Disclosure Agreement for. It seems Lloyd is a likely addition, especially considering theTalesfranchise is owned by Bandai Namco, who worked closely with Nintendo in developingSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Waddle Dee
In early October an unsubstantiated leak got out regarding the inclusion ofthree previously unannounced fighterstoSmash Bros.Ultimate. The most detailed was Bandana Waddle Dee, from theKirbygames. He’s been requested byKirbyfans for years. He is rumored to launch alongsideSSBUstage based off ofKirby Clash’s Dream Kingdom, as well as 3 remixes and 4 ported music tracks. Bandana Waddle Dee will also add 10 spirits: Adelein & Ribbon, Dark Meta Knight, Taranza, Haltmann, Zero, Hyness, some form of Void, Drawcia, Sailor Dee, and Morpho Knight. More so than the other characters leaked earlier this month, Waddle Dee has the highest likelihood of being the next announced DLC character.
Rayman
Another character discussed in the OctoberSSBUleak was Ubisoft’s Rayman. Rayman has been a part of the DLC rumor mill since the game launched almost a year ago. Given how much Nintendo is trying to gather as many iconic characters as it can, reaching far beyond just characters from Nintendo exclusives, Rayman would be an excellent fit. However, there is not much evidence at the time to support his inclusion as more than just a rumor.

Professor E. Gadd
Professor E.Gadd fromLuigi’s Mansionwas the third character included in the October leak. He is rumored to also bring bring music and spirits from the upcomingLuigi’s Mansion 3toSSBU. Once again, the evidence is not there to support this, but the upcoming release ofLuigi’s Mansion 3does lend this prediction a bit more credibility, especially if Nintendo wants to add music and characters from the game intoSmash.
The Doom Slayer
Doomguy, or officially called the Doom Slayer in the new lore, has been rumored multiple times. Most notably it was rumored by a 4chan user who accurately predicted the inclusion of Hero fromDragon Questand Banjo-Kazooie. This same leaker also predicted theDoom Slayer was being added toSmashand that another character from a major publisher that is not Nintendo may also be on its way. The Doom Slayer would retain the character’s look from the 2016 reboot, but he will have access to some gear from the upcomingDoom Eternal, including the arm blade.
A Monster Hunter
The same online poster who predicted Hero and Banjo speculated that aMonster Huntercharacter was on its way toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. The character added would be the player avatar from the game, the titular Monster Hunter. It would come with male and female variations according to the rumor. This seems like an odd choice and outside of the posters track record there is not much to support it.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
