However, players must complete the Secrets of the Restricted Section main story quest and possess level three Alohomora to access all magic traces.
In many ways,Hogwarts Legacy’s Ancient Magichelps the game feel unique, owing to the player character’s rare connection to it. However, using Ancient Magic for powerful attacks and spectacular takedowns drains players' Ancient Magic meter. Fortunately, players can increase their meter size bylocating and completing Ancient Magic Hotspotsto become exceptionally formidable witches or wizards.

One Exploration Challenge in Hogwarts Legacy that takes players across the whole map involves tracking down and collecting traces of rare Ancient Magic, giving players more power to perform impressive takedowns and finishing moves in combat. However, it’s no easy task, with there being 20 Ancient Magic Hotspot Locations to find overall. Consequently, players may be eager to know where to find every Hot Spot Location and what spells or gear they need to reach them. Some Ancient Magic Traces are also trickier to find than others, with certain locations containing many Hotspots, including six Ancient Magic Hotspots in Hogwarts Valley. This update aims to provide players with more information to help themfind all Ancient Magic Hotspots in Hogwarts Legacy, including more details about the rewards and benefits of doing so.
Forbidden Forest Ancient Magic Hotspot Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
Kicking offHogwarts Legacy’s Ancient Magic Hotspot Exploration Challenge, there aretwo Ancient Magic Hotspotsto find in the game’s Forbidden Forest map region, as follows:
Ancient Magic Hotspot Forbidden Forest Location One
The first Forbidden Forest Ancient Magic Hotspot is northeast ofJackdaw’s Tomb Floo Flameand involves a frog statue puzzle. Head into the eastern ruins to find the first Ancient Magic trace located by the archway by the statues. Use the second statue from the right to find the next one upstairs to complete the puzzle.
Ancient Magic Hotspot Forbidden Forest Location Two
Players can find the second Forbidden Forest Ancient Magic Hotspot located inside the wreck southwest of theNorth Ford Bog Floo Flame. Kill any Venomous Spiderlings and find the first collectible trace on the right.
Grab the cryptic note that repeats the words ‘follow the spiders,’ a funHogwarts LegacyEaster Eggas a nod to when Ron fearfully talks about following the spiders inHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Climb the nearby boxes to get another Ancient Magic trace and crouch under the collapsed building to reach the final one.
Hogsmeade Valley Ancient Magic Hot Spot Location in Hogwarts Legacy
In Hogsmeade Valley, there is justone Ancient Magic Hotspotplayers can find inside the wrecked building northeast of Hogsmeade. Players can use theEast Hogsmeade Floo Flameto travel there and grab the Ancient Magic trace in front of the gated doorway.
Fly inside using a broomto find the remaining traces at the top and middle of the ruins. Players can then cast the Confringo spell on the pulley mechanism to drop to the final Ancient Magic trace below.
North Hogwarts Ancient Magic Hot Spot Location
There isone Ancient Magic Hotspotin North Hogwarts northeast of theEast North Hogwarts Region Floo Flame. Fly to the eastern ruins and investigate the first trace by the large archway. Blast the nearby vines with Confringo and grab the one on the tomb ahead.
Cast Bombarda on the floor panel to descend and get the trace behind the tomb. Then, use the Accio spell on the drawers to reveala secretHogwarts Legacyroomcontaining the final Ancient Magic trace, spawning two Inferius enemies to defeat.
Hogwarts Valley Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
There aresix Ancient Magic Hotspotsto find inHogwarts Legacy’s Hogwarts Valley map region, as detailed below:
South West Of Lower Hogsfield
Use theLower Hogsfield Floo Flameand find the first trace by the castle ruins' well. Defeat the Thornback Matriarch spider and grab the second trace nearby. Use the roof openings to reach the next two traces and collect the final trace at the top of the ruins near the beacon.
West of Brocburrow
Head to the castle ruins southwest of theBrocburrow Floo Frameand land on the wooden platform to investigate the first Ancient Magic trace. Cast the Depulso spell on the door mechanism to open the castle gate for the next one. Players should then cast Depulso on the second mechanism and head outside, casting Incendio on the vines to reach and climb a set of ladders. Cast Incendio at the top to get the third trace, and then use the Accio block or a broom to collect the final trace under the roofed tower.
Northwest of Keenbridge
Head to the castle ruins northwest ofKeenbridge, defeating any Ashwinders before locating the first trace by the tower not far from aHogwarts Valley Merlin Trial location. Use Accio on the handle above to pull down a platform and collect the next trace and the third inside the tower behind the vines. Players can get the last one inside the building nearby by casting Incendio on the doorway.
West of Keenbridge
Head south to the ruins west ofKeenbridgeand find the first trace by the stairs. Then, head across the opposite field bythe Lacewing Flies located by the next trace. The third trace is above the ruins' chimney, and the final is on a nearby hill.
East of Keenbridge
Locate the castle ruins east ofKeenbridgeand land on the small platform by the turret to activate the first trace. Use Confringo on the vines and barrels inside to grab the next one under the wooden construction. Fly up to the levels above to get two more traces bythe nearby Astronomy Table location.
South of Brocburrow
Thefinal Ancient Magic Hotspot in Hogwarts Valleyis located in the castle ruinssouth ofBrocburrow, as pictured on the map above. Investigate the first trace at the castle entrance and follow the path right, defeating any spiders, for the next 2. Climb the roofed fence outside to reach the final one.
Feldcroft Region Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
There arefour Ancient Magic Hot SpotsinHogwart’s Legacy’s Feldcroft Region. The first is west of theWest Hogwarts Valley Floo Flameby the Small Bandit Camp. Head to the turret to find two more, with the remaining traces being in the opposite building.
The second Ancient Magic Hotspot is in the wrecked building north of theFeldcroft Floo Flameby the vendor location. Players can find the traces by the wall near the arch, up the wooden scaffolding, and at the top of the building.
The third Ancient Magic Hotspot is located inside the ruins east of theFeldcroft Floo Flame. The traces spread around each stone ruin in the area, with the final one being deviously inside the troll tent.
The final Feldcroft Region Hot Spot is inside the castle ruins southwest of theIrondale Floo Flame. The traces are located by the archway entrance, behind a set of vines, up the stairs to the left, and on top of the ledge opposite the stairs.
Poidsear Coast Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
Once players get a broom, they can effectivelytravel to the Poidsear Coastat any time, and they don’t necessarily have to wait until progressing in the story. The Poidsear Coast is the first area players can explore in this large southern zone of the game’s expansive map, so it’s best to use fast travel to cover more ground once players unlock more of its Floo Flame locations.
Overall, there aretwo Ancient Magic Hot Spots on the Poisdear CoastinHogwarts Legacy. The first is next to theSouth Poidsear Coast Floo Flame. It’s best to start at the front of the bridge and head inside the adjoining ruined building to find the traces, using Lumos against the Devil’s Snare.
The second is in the ruined building south of thePhoenix Mountain Floo Flame. Use level one Alohomora spell to open the gated entrance and blast the rocks inside with Confringo to find a trace above a toilet. The remaining ones are discoverable in the upper levels, which players can access using theAccio and Arresto Momentum spell combinationon the block.
Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
There aretwo Ancient Magic Hot Spotsin Marunweem Lake inHogwarts Legacy. The first is by theMarunweem Bridge Floo Flame.Use Reparo to access the upper levels, killing any goblins and unlocking the level three door at the top. Players can find the trace on a boat on the Lake.
The second is by the ruins opposite theCoastal Mine Floo Flame, with the first trace being in the small graveyard where many Inferius spawn. Players can find the rest in the building’s upper levels and behind the gate mechanism.
Manor Cape Ancient Magic Hot Spot Location in Hogwarts Legacy
There isone Ancient Magic Hot Spotin Manor Cape, located northwest of theManor Cape Floo Flame, inside the Manor House upper levels. They are all reachable by broom despite the level two locked door.
Cragcroftshire Magic Hot Spot Location in Hogwarts Legacy
Thefinal Ancient Magic Hot SpotinHogwarts Legacyis by the tower connected to the landscape by a bridge southeast of theCragcroft Shore Floo Flame. Once there, players can discover all Ancient Magic tracesinside the tower or on its external walls, with one trace being at thebottom of the stairs inside the tower, one being at thetop of the steps, and another being on the tower roof.
Players can reach the top of the tower by using a fire spell like Confringo on the vines blocking the doorway, followed by flying up to the top of the tower using a broom. Players will also need a broom to access thefourth trace about halfway up one of the external wallsof the tower.
Hogwarts Legacy Ancient Magic Hotspot Exploration Challenge Rewards
To begin with, players only have two bars of Ancient Magic in their Ancient Magic Meter inHogwarts Legacy. However, if they find and absorb all Ancient Magic traces atall Ancient Magic Hotspot locations, they canincrease their Ancient Magic Meterby three additional slots as a reward. Therefore, it’s possible to get amaximum of five Ancient Magic Meter slotsoverall, represented as bars on the player’s screen, with the number increasing according to the number of Ancient Magic Hot Spots players collect, as detailed below:
Hogwarts Legacy’s Ancient Magic Meter gauge fills during combat, enabling players to cast powerful enemy takedown moves called Ancient Magic Finishers, so increasing its capacity is beneficial. Extending the Ancient Magic Meter essentially lets players draw upon more power and become a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, taking out enemies with style using epic Ancient Magic.
