My Hero Academia’s story has been ramping up the action in the manga, with Deku and Tomura Shigaraki’s final clash gets closer and closer. With Deku learning to master more and more of One For All’s powers andShigaraki unifying with All For One, this battle is sure to be bigger than ever before. Still, that doesn’t mean that others aren’t trying to take out Shigaraki on their own, such as America’s Number 1 Hero, Star and Stripe.

In a recent arc, Star and Stripe faced off with Tomura Shigaraki, where she showed off her unique quirk, New Order. With her unbelievably powerful quirk, Star and Stripe pushed Shigaraki to the brink in an exhilarating air battle but was ultimately defeated herself. While Star and Stripe’s appearance in the series was quite short, her fight with Shigaraki and the use of New Order was highly significant, and is sure to have huge repercussions on the rest of the series.

What Is New Order’s Ability?

Star and Stripe’s unique quirk, New Order, isone of the most overpowered and versatile abilitiesinMy Hero Academia. New Order allows Star and Stripe to set “rules” which can change the nature of things, such as making intangible things tangible and giving herself new abilities. She can even use New Order to affect other living beings, but not as freely as inanimate objects. In order to affect another with her quirk, Star and Stripe must fulfill two conditions: she must touch the person she wishes to affect, then say their name.

New Order has a few more restrictions that limit its power. While Star and Stripe can use these “rules” to increase her strength and speed, there are limits to how much she can increase it by, and it is quoted as not being enough to make her even close to as strong as All Might. In addition, she can only have two “rules” active at the same time; if she wants to add a new rule, she must disable a previous one. This limits how much Star and Stripe can affect the world with New Order. Despite all these restrictions, New Order is still an incredibly powerful and versatile quirk, as proven by Star and Stripe’s status as the Number 1 Hero of America.

The Battle Against Tomura Shigaraki

Star and Stripe’s main appearance in My Hero Academia revolves around her climactic battle with Tomura Shigaraki. The battle begins with Star and Stripe demonstrating her unique abilities by creating a vacuum in front of her and grabbing a laser and using it as a weapon. Throughout the fight, Star and Stripe attempts to close the distance between her and Shigaraki, dodging his attacks skillfully with the help of the American Air Force. She eventually accomplishes this with a fierce punch to Shigaraki’s face, sending him flying.

Having fulfilled the conditions to use her New Order ability on Shigaraki, she sets a rule stating that Shigaraki’s heart will stop if he moves even a little. However, her plan had one flaw. Having partially merged with All For One, Shigaraki’s identity had become muddled and vague, and therefore Star and Stripe was unable to properly fulfill the second condition of New Order. With her plan having failed, Star and Stripe attempted to kill Shigaraki using pure brute force, but Shigaraki managed to survive all of her attacks. Ultimately,Shigaraki was able to turn the tablesand grab hold of Star and Stripe, affecting her with his decay quirk while also stealing New Order for himself.

The Aftermath

However, Star and Stripe had one last gambit. Having seen that Shigaraki stealing her quirk was inevitable, she set one rule in order to counteract that, and made New Order revolt against other quirks. As soon as Shigaraki took New Order, it began rampaging through his entire body, destroyingthe quirks that he had obtained through All For One. While Shigaraki attempted to get rid of New Order, he couldn’t do so without giving it to someone else. He eventually found someone to give the quirk too, but by then, the quirk would destroy itself, making all of Shigaraki’s efforts moot.

While Star and Stripe was disintegrated by the effects of Shigaraki’s decay quirk, Shigaraki himself was heavily injured by New Order’s assault on his body. This also set back the progress of Shigaraki’s fusion with All For One, buying the heroes more time to prepare for the final showdown. In addition, several of All For One’s meticulously obtained quirks were destroyed, meaning Shigaraki was now that much weaker. Even if he recovers and fully merges with All For One, Shigaraki is now weaker than he would have been before his battle with Star and Stripe. While the battle ended in her loss, Star and Stripe’s efforts may be the turning point that grants ultimate victory to Deku and the heroes.
