One fan-favorite feature to come out of recent entries in thePokemonseries is the ability to customize the player’s appearance through choice of hair color and style, skin tone, and clothes. While this feature is still present inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, the clothing options are somewhat lacking compared to previous entries with players only really getting to swap between four Academy uniform options, leaving accessories as the main source of customization. With the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC upcoming forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, there is a chance new types of clothing items will be added so that players can expand their wardrobes.
Clothes customization was first introduced in Gen 6 withPokemon X and Yand has appeared in one form or another in each entry sincePokemon Sun and Moon. While some games have included a greater variety of clothing options than others, most new generations upped the variety of clothing options available from the previous one, with the exception ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetlimiting clothes optionsdue to the Academy uniforms players must wear. New Academy uniforms are confirmed to be available for players who pre-order the DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, but it’s likely other clothing options will be available as well.

Clothing Items that Should be Included in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC
With the core of players' wardrobes limited to the four seasonal Academy uniforms inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, the option for player outfits is somewhat limited in the base game and mostly revolves around how players choose to accessorize. Rather than sticking to the default shorts or pants of the Academy uniforms,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCneeds to add skirts as an option for players tired of the standard Academy bottoms. Skirts have been an option in past entries and were a great option for players wanting a more feminine look for their trainer.
Another more feminine clothing option that should return inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC are dresses.Pokemon Sword and Shield’s customization optionsincluded dresses for players to wear that helped add an elegant style to a trainer’s look when customizing their league card. The Spanish inspiration for the Paldea Region offers the perfect opportunity for some unique and beautiful dress designs thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetcould capitalize on in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC.
With players traveling to two new lands inThe Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, it’s likely that they will have the opportunity to get new outfits themed around the land of Kitakami and Blueberry Academy, respectively. The artwork for The Teal Mask shows the player characters wearing outfits inspired by the traditional Japanese yukata usually worn during summer festivals, which would make for an appropriate addition to trainers' wardrobes after visiting Kitakami. The artwork for The Indigo Disk shows trainers wearing outfits that appear to be inspired by sailors uniforms, fitting for an Academy set in the middle of the ocean.
Since players will be out at sea while visitingBlueberry Academy in The Indigo Disk, other warm-weather outfits like tank tops should be available like they were inPokemon Sun and Moon. It would be great to see other headgear that fits this theme as well, such as sailor hats or even scuba masks and swim goggles, and other footwear options like flippers in The Indigo Disk or geta clogs in The Teal Mask to fit with the traditional Japanese aesthetic seem like obvious choices. There is still a lot of room for thePokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC to get creative with new clothing options for players, even if the Academy uniforms remain at the core of their outfits.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare available for Nintendo Switch.
