A new video of the beta forPersona 5: The Phantom Xshows how the Shinjuku area has changed when compared to the one seen in the original game. In real life,Shinjuku is one of Japan’s most recognizable places, as it frequently makes plenty of appearances in Japanese media. This includes video games as well, with the originalPersona 5featuring it as a location fans could visit at any time. This area will also be accessible in thePersona 5: The Phantom Xspin-off.

In the originalPersona 5, players first visit Shinjuku while looking for more information about the game’s third palace ruler. It is also the location of where players can startChihaya Mifune’s Fortune arcana confidant, or visit the Crossroads bar to start the Devil arcana Confidant. InPersona 5: The Phantom X, players will once again be able to visit this iconic location, though the area has been altered for this spin-off.

This was showcased in a video by JRPG YouTuber Faz, who had access to the second beta of the game. In this video, he showcased howthe returning Shinjuku looks inPersona 5: The Phantom Xcompares to the one seen in the original game/Royal. Evidently, Shinjuku has expanded, where it is now twice as big as the original area, with new background shops and restaurants put in place. The player can go down some newer pathways and alleys that weren’t accessible in the original, giving the game a greater sense of scope. The new map that the player can pull up also denotes areas-of-interest that are different from the original game, along with different NPCs.

A lot of the architecture has also changed inPersona 5: The Phantom X, such as the Kabuchiko red gate being put in place, making it closer to its real world counterpart. Some of the classic locations from the original game have been retained, such as Chihaya Mifune’s fortunetelling stand, or the aforementioned crossroads bar, which the protagonist’s owl companion will comment on. The theater, flower shop, and book store have also been kept.

Fans were impressed at the amount of places that they could visit in Shinjuku, with the area also providing a lot of variety. Some noted that this version of the area was shown during the day, and expressed their curiosity at what it looks like at night. Other fans expressed theirhope forPhantom Xto be released globallyand not be restricted to just China, so they could see what other changes have been made betweenP5andP5X.
