Taking its early beta build into consideration, there are understandably certain gameplay mechanics and overall game features that need some extra work before the full game is finally available on October 30th. Based on the positive reception so far, developers will be looking to heighten this to its optimal point.

6Increase Time To Kill

Similar to complaints andcontroversy for previous titles such asBlack Ops: Cold War’sbeta,Modern Warfare(2019), and the ongoingVanguard, some fans have voiced their concerns over the time to kill featured in the beta with the feeling that it is too quick. Players can often find themselves without the opportunity to move or retaliate after taking damage.

Reasoning as to why this has been maintained may come down to the idea of realism, and making the multiplayer experience as brutal and grounded as possible depending on the design choices made. Given the two opposing crowds on the matter, Infinity Ward andthe fellow Activision studios working on this titlewill have to settle for one or the other which will inevitably leave some disappointed. Increasing the time to kill will be beneficial in the aspect of prolonging gun battles, making for more intense encounters in lobbies.

5Hit Feedback

One of the more crucial aspects ofCall Of Dutytitles is the games’ audio and visual cues, enabling players to quickly maneuver and find their way out of overwhelming scenarios. Whilst theaudio cues for players' footsteps and movementsare very much intact in the beta, the visual feedback for when a player has been hit is lacking in comparison to predecessors.

Despite the presence of on-screen effects indicating damage being taken, this is juxtaposed with the time to kill as the time players are given to react to this seems to have decreased. To tweak this correctly, it is imperative that developers find a good balance it is neither too quick nor too long whilst also implementing much clearer visual cues when taking damage.

4Kill/Streak Notification

InModern Warfare(2019) and the plethora of otherCall Of Dutyentries, players receive a quick on-screen notification that would highlight a successful kill orshowcase the streak the player is on. Whilst this is certainly present here in the beta ofModern Warfare 2,it is less visible than normal lacking any option for the color, and is placed at the bottom of the screen rather than the center.

Many fans may feel that this is less important in the grand scheme of the game, but some players know that this is helpful in the contribution towards keeping track of kills while staying alert and on the move amid battle. The best move for Infinity Ward to take in this aspect is to give players the freedom to choose where and how they wish these notifications to be presented, similar to the color options of companions and enemies.

3User Interface

As this is almost certain to change at release specifically once the first season becomes available to players, fans will be advocating for a much better menu design and UI details within gameplay.Similar to other menu screen innovationsThis will be beneficial to navigation and in all give the title a fresh look.

While this is not integral to the game’s success as the other pivotal factors are, players will appreciate the effort of developers in the idea of polishing menu screens and possibly even matching them with the set themes and context of each release of their seasons.

2Enemy Name Display

Crucial to each enemy encounter within lobbies is the display of the player’s team and opposition. So far as fans will have seen in this beta, this feature appears to be absent from the title which may come as a surprise to many considering the fact that it is viewed as a prerequisite in most FPS games.

This omission makes spotting enemies and picking targets much more difficult for players to pull off successfully, and may very much again come down to Infinity Ward’s design choices with the goal of creating a realistic and grounded experience. Rather than be a prominent change in all game modes, the best option here would be to have this as an option for players to toggle on or off, or potentially have this be heavily featured in hardcore modes.

Main Menu

1Battle Rage Ability

Standing as one of the new additions in’Field Upgrades', this ability enables players to last much longer in gun battles as their health regenerates much quicker, whilst becoming more invulnerable to tactical equipment used by foes. This gives fans a gung-ho feel, as there are more opportunities to engage enemies while still keeping caution.

The problem here is the on-screen effects whilst this ability is active, which can be distracting in spotting enemies depending on the brightness and surroundings of each map. Tweaking this would lead to the perfect product and one which is not overpowered considering the presence of a cooldown.
