The Sith and their Death Stars might be big, but they are still dwarfed in comparison to what the galaxy can organically create. The recent episodes ofThe Mandalorianhave shed new light on the living leviathans of theStar Warsmythos (Canon lore) and among them was the local wildlife of Mandalore, the Mythosaur.

It turns out, they can even grow bigger than what the concept art intended, proving once again thatStar Warsis home to creatures more imaginative than humanoids withtoo much hair. These absolute units are here to remindStar Warsfans that there’s always a bigger fish.
10Mythosaur
First up is the aforementioned mount of choice for Mandalorian leaders, the Mythosaur. Some concept art for these creatures put them at a modest size and are only about twice as large as a horse on Earth butThe MandalorianSeason 3 Episode 2 had a different take. Deep in the waters of the abandoned planet of Mandalore lies quite possibly the biggest Mythosaur.
One of its tusks was bigger than a full-grown humanoid Mandalorian, which puts its actual size into perspective. Only its head was visible in the rather brief and dimly-lit sequence. Considering how the rest of its body is supposed to be at least several times larger than its head like most limbed creatures, estimates for this particular Mythosaur could be more generous.

It’s also worth noting that the Mythosaur could have pulled down Din Djarin and its very existence could be an omen foretelling therise of Mandaloreonce more, with a new leader, presumably the person it pulled.
9Krykna
The Krykna, or Ice Spider, was also present inStar Wars Rebelsbut they were merely in their average height (around two meters) during that appearance. The Krykna in Season 2, Episode 2 ofThe Mandalorian, on the other hand, was a freak of nature.

It was thesame size as Din Djarin’s Razor Crest(RIP), and it easily pinned down the large cargo vessel during take-off. This particular Krykna was likely a queen or matriarch but that indicates the limits of their growth (or the lack of limits, which is concerning for arachnophobes).
8Rancor
Of course, there’s also the good old halitosis monster introduced in the original trilogy, the Rancor. Previously, it was nothing more than a big bad meanie, butThe Book of Boba Fettpainted the Rancor in a more sympathetic and adorable light.
Turns out they imprint on the first person they see. And Boba Fett’s Rancor also seems to be bigger than the others since it’s thesame size as a Scorpenek Annihilator Droid(basically a giant Droideka). The show also implied that Boba Fett’s Rancor was still growing so it could be even bigger later on.

7Krayt Dragon
The Krayt Dragon, also seen in full force and likely in full size inThe MandalorianSeason 2, Episode 1 was a force to be reckoned with. Despite being generally smaller than Sarlaccs, the Krayt Dragon apparently ate the Sarlacc that swallowed Boba Fett and then it took over the beast’s lair.

In terms of size, the Krayt Dragon weighs around45 meters and 2,000 kilograms(Legends lore) and looks a lotbigger than the Millennium Falcon(for scale). It took a whole village and a tribe of Tusken Raiders to deal with it and even then, they could have easily failed without Din Djarin’s help.
6Sarlacc
A Sarlacc on average has a length of100 meters, making them significantly bigger than Krayt Dragons. However, their predatory threat begins and ends with their mouths once they’ve grown too large. They’re like pitcher plants in the deserts of Tatooine, waiting for poor creatures to fall down.
It’s hard to visualize the whole body of a Sarlacc since once they have achieved a certain size, they’ll just burrow and become immobile. Regardless, it’s less ferocious than its Krayt Dragon predators due to its inherent laziness and mode of hunting.

5Purrgil
Purrgil, or the whales that can jump into hyperspace, also appeared inStar Warslong beforeThe Mandalorian. They were present inStar Wars Rebels. There, they can be seen with each asizeofarounda third ofImperial Star Destroyers, which is huge.

InThe Mandalorian, they also seem to look biggersince Din Djarin’s ship is nothing more than a mere toothpick for the Purrgil’s silhouette and they weren’t even that close in proximity. Fun fact, the Purrgil were the secret to unlocking hyperspace travel after a race of humanoids called the Rakata studied how the whales migrated.
4Zillo Beast
The Zillo Beast, also known as the Beast, was a giant creature that appeared inStar Wars: The Clone WarsandThe Bad Batch. Atnearly 100 meters tall or long(it could stand upright), the carnivorous beast was even considered an experimental weapon by the Empire.
It’s their indestructible hide which attracted the attention of even someone like Sheev Palpatine. One even broke free in Coruscant and the combined forces of the Jedi and the Republic Clones weren’t enough to contain it, so they had to poison the beast.

3Sando
Back inThe Phantom Menace, there was an underwater sequence that was more of a late-1990s CGI flex. During Obi-wan and Qui-Gon’s travels on the outskirts of a Gungan city, they were assaulted by what appeared to be a big Gooberfish (thanks Jar Jar Binks). This Gooberfish was then promptly eaten by something a lot bigger.

That something bigger was the legendary Sando aquatic monster. They were so few that the people on Naboo considered them legends and their size is even more legendary; one can grow up to alength of 200 meters, that’s four Krayt Dragons.
2Exogorth
Back whenStar Warswas just establishing its foothold in pop culture, it likely awed its viewers with how imaginative it could be with one of its creatures, the gigantic asteroid worm called Exogorth. The creature notably appeared as an obstacle when Han Solo was evading the Empire. It even almost swallowed the Millennium Falcon, which is the same size as one of its teeth.
Needless to say, the Exogorth is one humongous monster. Officially, its average length is around900 metersor nearly a kilometer. They’re so big, they can hold entire ecosystems inside their bodies and they can even live for billions of years. Not a bad place for a retirement spot, just don’t get digested.

1Summa-verminoth
For decades, the Exogorth held the crown for the biggest visible creature inStar Warscanon lore until the arrival ofSolo: A Star Wars Story. The spinoff film portrayed Han’s famous 12-parsec Kessel Run using the Millennium Falcon while getting chased by Tie Fighters.
Except it wasn’t just the Tie Fighters, asteroids, or black holes that were the threat. Among them wasa Lovecraftian monsterof epic proportions called the Summa-verminoth. One of them is7,432 meters long, with numerous tentacles and multiple eyes counted. Sadly, the Summa-verminoth was torn by a black hole during the very same sequence it appeared since Han has a penchant for running away from big, fat monsters, Hutts and Death Stars included.
