Exploring the Deepwood Shrine

Since it is thefirst dungeon in the game, the Deepwood Shrine is pretty straight forward. In order to reach the boss, players will need to search for small keys to open locked doors and find a new item that will help them access areas they can’t get to with their current equipment. In the first room of the Deepwood Shrine, push the statue to the left and go through the north door. In the next room, there will be slugs and four unlit torches with plates next to them.

Kill the slugs and then step on all four plates to light the torches. Once all four torches are lit,a chest will appear that contains a small key. Small keys can be used to open locked doorsthroughout the dungeon. Go north and use the small key to open the door that leads to the next room.

There is a lever in the next room. Grab it with ‘R’ and pull it to create a bridge to the middle of the room where a mushroom is. Go toward the mushroom, grab it, and pull it along the bridge. Once the mushroom can not be pulled any further, let go of the movement stick and get launched to the other side of the room. From here, go north into the next room.

How to Free the Barrel

In this next room, there is a large barrel which is one of the firstpuzzles in the game. Most of this room is currently inaccessible, so go right up the nearby stairs. Step on the switch near the torch to destroy the vines attached to the barrel. With the first set of vines gone, go inside the barrel and then use the door on the other side. On the other side of the room, there will be another set of stairs leading up to an unlit torch and a series of vines hanging from the barrel.

to destroy these vines, move the statue to put it on one of the switches and then stand on the other one. This will light the torch and the last set of vines will be destroyed. With the barrel now free, players can go inside and rotate it simply by walking. Rotate the barrel to open a path that leads out of this room.

Find More Small Keys

In the next room, pull the mushroom back all the way to reach the far side. Go up the stairs andopen a chest that contains a dungeon map. Go back to the mushroom and only pull it half as far as it can go to reach the middle of the room. Go through the doorway and push the nearby block to make it easier to navigate through this room. From there, go through the west door. In this next room is a switch that requires players to place an object on it to keep it activated. Push the pot onto the switch and then go across the bridge that is formed and enter the next room via the south door.

In this next room are two statues and a wall of unmovable blocks. Shift the statues around to gain access to the area walled off by the blocks and thenput both statues onto the switches to spawn a chest that contains a small key. Head back to the room with the large barrel and use the key on the locked door.

Use the mushroom on the right to reach the middle part of the next room. Step on the switch and pull the mushroom along the bridge to get to the other side of the water and go east. Inside the next room, players will need to move the statues so that they can get around and put one of the statues onto the switch to open the door.Kill enemies in this room and a small key will fall from the ceiling. With the key, go west, then north, and then west again.

In this next room, players will encounter mushroom enemies and a series of pots. While the mushroom enemies can’t be harmed with a sword, players can throw pots at them to kill them. Once it is clear, use the small key to unlock the door on the west side of the room.

How to Beat the Mini-Boss

In this next room, players will encounter the first mini-boss in the game. The boss will roam around the room and will damage players if it makes contact with them. In order to beat this boss, hit in the face with the sword. This will stun the boss and allow players to damage the tail. Keep attacking the tail until the boss turns red. While the boss is red, players will be unable to damage it. Once the boss goes back to its normal color, stun it again and hit its tail. Repeat this process until the boss is defeated.

When the boss dies, a chest will appear in the middle of the room. This chest containsan item called the Gust Jar. This item can be equipped like the sword and shield on either ‘A’ or ‘B’. When holding down the button it is equipped to, the Gust Jar will begin to pull in air like a vacuum. When the button is let go, it will shoot air out.

How to Find the Big Key

With the Gust Jar in their possession, players will be able to find the Big Key and reach the boss of the first dungeon. Before leaving this room, use the Gust Jar to pull the cobweb off of the door to the south.Go into the next room to get a Piece of Heart.

Return to the room with the large barrel and rotate it until a door blocked with a cobweb shows up. Use the Gust Jar to remove the cobweb and then fall down the doorway to reach the basement of this shrine.

In this next area, players will need to use a lily pad and the Gust Jar to navigate across a large body of water. Shoot the Gust Jar to make the lily pad move. Keep going and look for a set of stairs. Go up these stairs and push a pot onto the switch to make the stone pillars blocking the water sink. Get back onto the lily pad and go north. Up ahead is a large chest that contains a compass for the dungeon. Before getting onto the lily pad, move a pot onto the switch to make a chest appear. Thenuse the lily pad to reach the chest and claim the small keythat is contained within.

Get back onto the lily pad and look for a locked door in the basement. Use the small key and go into the next room. Use the Gust Jar and the mushrooms to navigate across the room to reach thechest in the middle that contains the Big Key. Step on a nearby plate to activate a teleporter that goes back to the entrance.

At the entrance, there are two doorways blocked off by cobwebs. Use the Gust Jar to remove the cobwebs and reveal stairways. On the left side of the next floor is a chest that contains 20 Rupees. Go back downstairs and use the stairs on the right. From there, use the musrhoom and the Gust Jar to reach the door that leads to the first boss.

How to Beat the Deepwood Shrine Boss

This boss is all that stands between players and the first mystic element, the Earth Element. Rather than fighting a unique enemy, players will fight a large Green ChuChu.This boss isn’t difficult, but players will need to stay on their toes. In order to damage the boss, players must use the Gust Jar to make it lose its balance and fall over. Watch where it is moving to avoid having it collapse and hit the player when it lands. While the boss is stunned, hit it in the head with the sword repeatedly until it gets back up.

Continue using the Gust Jar to make it fall over again, but watch out for its jump attack. Repeat this process until the boss dies, and then claim both the Earth Element and the Heart Container that spawns afterward. When ready, step onto the teleporterto leave this dungeon.
