Thanks to the upcoming PS5 remaster ofThe Last of Us 2, fans of the game can now look forward to even more content that was not included in the original launch. One of the most exciting features to be added to this remaster is the inclusion of lost levels that have never been seen before. The lost levels ofThe Last of Us 2will be adding more content to Ellie’s story, but there is also a missed opportunity when it comes to certain characters.

There are set to be three lost levels coming toThe Last of Us 2 Remasteredtitled Jackson Dance, Boar Hunt, and Sewers, which will give fans a peek into some content that was cut early in the game’s development. Although new levels are an exciting addition to look forward to, Naughty Dog has missed a chance to shed more light on theinner workings of the WLFwith lost levels.

The Last of Us 2’s Lost Levels Could Have Revealed Deeper Lore

It’s going to be incredibly exciting to experience three different cut levels, but Naughty Dog could have used this approach to dive further into Abby and her companions as they work for the WLF.The Last of Us 2is an incredible story, but one of the weak points was with characters on Abby’s side, like Owen, Mel, and Isaac. The game’s story set up the potential for some compelling characters, but their stories felt shallow compared to Ellie’s friends, Dina and Jesse.

There is a good argument to make thatJesse got the short end of the stickwhen it comes to Ellie’s storyline, but players were given more of a chance to become emotionally attached to Jesse, making his fate a shocking moment in the story. The WLF is without a doubt a morally gray group, but the militia was one of the most interesting additions to the lore ofThe Last of Us. Players could have been given much more information about how the group operated, but the game’s story just didn’t have the chance to go deep enough.

One of the most fascinating characters players were introduced to throughout the events ofThe Last of Us 2was Isaac Dixon, the leader of the WLF. A lost level that explored more of his relationship withAbby and her friendscould have given Isaac more of a backstory that will seemingly remain a mystery. For the game to introduce such an interesting character, Isaac only has a few sparse moments of screen time that didn’t quite live up to its potential. Despite Abby and her companions being a divisive subject for some fans of the game, her story opened the door to learning more about the post-apocalyptic world humans have been forced to survive in, and it would have been great to see more of that explored.

The Last of Us 2 Remasteredadding new content, like the lost levels, a roguelike mode, and new outfits, is a great model that other remasters will hopefully take inspiration from. However, Naughty Dog’s idea could be taken even further. It’s highly unlikely that the three planned lost levels are the only unfinished moments cut fromThe Last of Us 2’s final version. There aremany moments inThe Last of Us 2that should get more levels, and exploring more of Abby’s backstory with the WLF would be a great start.
