Ever since the release of the firstSuper Mario Maker, players have been expressing their creativity in several ways by creating newMariolevels or redesigning some classic ones. For instance, a fan has spent seven yearsmaking an unofficialSuper Mario Bros 5gameusing this engine, which was quite an impressive achievement considering it had 40 fully-designed levels. This time, one player decided to create a fullZeldaadventure from scratch, using the mechanics ofSuper Mario Maker 2to their fullest potential.

Created by Random-Joe-64, the new project is titledThe Legend of Zelda: Super World, and it mixes classicSuper Mario Brosstyle gameplay withZelda. The whole game has eight worlds with 35 levels in total, and they come with unique dungeons at the end of each world.Super Mario Maker 2players can access this creation by using the codeID DCR-F5H-RJG.

In a video shared by Random-Joe-64, it’s possible to watch just over a minute of the gameplay, which showcases several levels. In it, gamers can see Link using a sword and bombs, and even fighting Bowser and other classic enemies fromSuper Mario Bros. According to the creator of the project,Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, considered one of thehardestZeldagames of all time, was the biggest inspiration for the project. That makes sense considering that this is the only side-scrollerZelda. One interesting gameplay detail about the new adventure is that Link may lose his sword during the game, and this will make him very vulnerable to attacks. Because of this, Random-Joe-64 advised gamers to take their time with the game and explore, using their abilities well.

Projects such as this one make clear that bothZeldaandMariohave a dedicated fanbase that is willing to use their creativity in unexpected ways to entertain fellow gamers. So, hopefully,Nintendo could release an officialZelda2D dungeon makerto work in a similar way to its famousSuper Mario Makerfranchise. Unfortunately, there are no official plans for that, soZeldafans will need to wait and play this amazing new adventure instead.

Super Mario Maker 2is available for the Switch.
