Subnautica: Below Zero is finally here, giving everyone Thalassophobia (fear of the Ocean) and filling their dreams with wandering Leviathans. This standalone installment has players returning to Planet 4546B but casts a cold shadow over the entire adventure. This time, explorers will have to brave the arctic depths, fending off the cold and discovering new species in an ice-riddled area.

It’s a brand new quest but, thankfully, featuresa lot of the same gameplay mechanics as its predecessor. After being tossed into the ocean, players will need to explore, craft, and build their way to victory, but not everything about this new area is black and white. There are a lot of materials needed to craft certain items and one of the most important in the early game isTable Coral. These useful, pancake-shaped organisms are an enigma to find for some, so here’s all there is to know about them.

What Are Table Coral?

Table Coralare, well, coral, but their samples are absolutely necessary for success in Subnautica: Below Zero. They grow in groups, usually horizontally (jutting from walls and rocks), but it is possible to find them growing vertically (attached to the seafloor). Thankfully, they’re easy to spotdue to their flat circular shape and the shining jewel-like spots sprinkled over their tops and bottoms. They also come in four distinct colors; purple, green, blue, & red.

Once harvested (with theThermobladeorSurvival Knife), theTable Coralwill drop oneTable Coral Sample.

Where To Find Table Coral

Table Coralaren’t hard to find if you know where to look, but it is important to note that they aren’t “overflowingly abundant.” There are two main areas that you’ll be able to harvest these necessary nodes:

By simplyexploring these two zonesand looking along the walls and seafloor, you should be able to gather upTable Coral Samples.

What Table Coral Is Used For

When players first spawn into a fresh world in Subnautica: Below Zero, they need to makeTable Coral Samplesa priority. These miniature orange disks (they show up orange in the player inventory no matter what colorTable Coralis harvested) are responsible for creating theComputer Chip, a material required for thecreation of many of the tools and technologies availablein the game.

Table Coral Samplesare also used to buildParallel Processing UnitsandScanner Rooms.

Can You Grow Table Coral?

Players are going to need to get their hands on a substantial amount ofTable Coraldepending on what tools and technologies they need to build. It takes twoTable Coral Samplesto build oneComputer Chip(but thankfully it only takes one chip to build each technology or tool).

Sadly, as of writing, there is no possible way to grow and reliably farm Table Coral. The only way players can get their hands onTable Coral Samplesis to explore the ocean depths and find them naturally. Thankfully, they’re not too difficult to find, but it can definitely take a bit of time to secure enough if players need a large amount of them.

It’s also possible to receive them as a material fromSea Monkeys, but players shouldn’t seek this out as a guaranteed way to get aTable Coral SampleasSea Monkeyshave alarge pool of materialsthat they can randomly offer to the player.
