Stranger Thingsfans were left with one of the biggest cliffhanger endings the show has done so far, with some major reveals and promises of an action-packed finale that will pit the Hawkins gang against the powerful and malevolent Vecna. Now, the first full trailer for volume two of season four has arrived, and it promises a showdown for the ages.
The newest spot builds its tension slowly at first, with a voiceover from Matthew Modine’s Dr. Brenner seeming to tell Eleven that her friends are “not prepared for this fight,” and that “Hawkins will fall.” Accompanying this narration are scenes of Steve, Nancy, Eddie, Dustin, and Max all loaded into an RV, looking very nervous. Layered underneath it all is the familiar sound ofKate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.“Eleven, undeterred by Brenner’s warning that she is not ready, appears determined to save her friends.

As the trailer breaks out of the introduction, there are brief flashes of what to expect in the coming episodes. One scene seems to show Nancy confrontingVecna in the very facility where he originated. This may be a dream sequence, however, as the aftermath of his carnage (back when he was just 001), is still fresh. Will and Robin highlight the dire nature of the situation, with the latter saying, “I have this terrible feeling, it might not work out for us this time.”
The rest of the trailer is packed with quick flashes of gunfire, explosions, fistfights, and Murray wielding a flamethrower, promising plenty of high-intensity action being packed into these final two episodes. With thefinale of the season clocking in at nearly two-and-a-half hours, there’s still plenty of room for this season to deliver some big surprises and emotional beats. After all, there is still plenty left to be resolved before this season ends. Aside from the final confrontation with Vecna, Hopper, Joyce, and Murray are still stuck in Russia, trapped in a facility with a Demogorgon (though where there’s one, there could very well be more).
Considering just how many great moments the first volume of season four already delivered (the most popular being Max’s escape set to the classic Kate Bush track),it might be hard for the next volume to top it. Still, if the trailer is any indication, these final two episodes will leave very little time to slow down and take a breath, as the fate of Hawkins, and maybe even the world, hangs in the balance.
Stranger ThingsSeason 4 Vol. 2 premieres on Netflix on July 1st.
