A Reddit post by u/hush-sh shows off an odd glitch they experienced while trying to use anamiibo card inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. As one would expect, the start of the clip shows the player using the Nook Terminal at Resident Services. The player uses the amiibo option at this location to bring the Cub villager Marty to their island as normal. The game acknowledges that a card is pressed to the NFC touchpoint on the player’s Nintendo Switch, and the screen then goes white. Instead of Marty, however, the cat villager Bob appears on the screen. Not only is this the wrong villager, but Bob introduces himself as ‘!’ and is not wearing any clothes. After this shocking revelation, the clip ends with viewers stuck staring at this odd moment.
Using an amiibo inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis typically a simple process. Players can acquire these in real life and then head to one of a few places to summon them in the game, including Resident Services, Harv’s Island, and the Roost café. As shown in this moment, sometimes these cards can be read by the game wrong and create odd moments such as this.
Getting each villager thata player wants on their island inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscan be a very lengthy process. Villagers appear at random at a player’s campsite and, and with hundreds available in the game, it can easily become frustrating. Then again, amiibo cards are always available for those players who are looking to hasten the process. Though they require an additional expense, these can make that traditionally long journey much shorter. Regardless of how players feel about them, all can agree that this is a strange moment.
