Summary
AStarfieldplayer shared their experience of a familiar-looking NPC boarding their ship and not being able to get rid of them. The moment is inspiring lots of jokes about Bethesda games, and manyStarfieldfans are expressing they’ve gone through something similar.
Starfieldlets players explore space in a ship all their own. The ship serves as a sort of hub for the player, whereStarfieldcrewand companions can be chatted with between ventures to the surface of planets. However, fans of the game and Bethesda’s other works are accustomed to seeing weird glitches transpire, though this one may have a reason behind it.

Starfieldplayer justsodizzy took to Reddit to discuss the unwanted hitchhiker that they discovered on their ship. The NPC is a nameless citizen, and justsodizzy says that they simply appeared on their ship with no apparent reason for it. The citizen allegedly just “babbles random nonsense” when talked to, and the player couldn’t figure out how to get rid of them. The citizen also just happens to bear a strong resemblance toTodd Howard, Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda.
Explaining the Stowaway Citizen
Fans in the comments have poked fun at the moment, joking about the Todd Howard lookalike and his presence on the player’s ship. A majority of these jokes say that the player needs to purchase another copy ofSkyrimin order to get him to go away. This is poking fun at the sheer number of re-releases Skyrim has had on various platforms, includingSkyrimfor Alexa.
One helpful fan suggested that the player needed to switch their home ship, referencing another post from over a year ago where someone found another Todd lookalike on their ship. However, this fix that apparently didn’t work. Several others suggested that justsodizzy may have picked up the citizen for an escort mission without realizing or remembering it. This can lead to NPCs getting stuck with the player if the escort mission isn’t completed in time. While justsodizzy didn’t respond about this possibility, it seems they got fed up with the citizen and decided to kill them. This got the player in trouble with Barrett, but justsodizzy defended the action, saying Barrett should have been upset about the stowaway, not the player’s actions.
Several players noted that there seem to be multiple NPCs that bear a resemblance to Todd Howard in the game, though it’s supposedly not intentional. Some suggest it’s unlikely to be a coincidence, butStarfieldalso has clone child NPCswandering around, so it’s not completely out of the question.
