StarWars.comhas compiled its list of ideal scary stories for the Halloween season, and some of them may be a bit surprising to fans. Starting from the top, they recommend theHigh Republicseries of comics from Marvel, which feature a particularly thrilling subject matter of monsters straight out of Jedi nursery rhymes. But if Bedtime Stories Come to Life isn’t quite what some fans are looking for, they can always check out one of the entries detailing villainous origins. The novelStar Wars: Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Bladeby Delilah S. Dawson tells the story of a Sith Inquisitor fulfilling her evil destiny while the comic seriesThe Rise of Kylo Rendetails Ben Solo’s infamous fall to the dark side.
Despite coming out before thebigStar Warscanon reset, the animated seriesThe Clone Warsremains part of the official timeline. This is particularly helpful right now, as the show introduced a considerable number of its own scary elements, many of which remain relevant to this day. One such aspect is the Nightsisters of Dathomir, a largely dark-side-aligned legion of women who can control a fittingly spooky brand of magic exclusive to their kind. Episodes focused on them make for some excellent watching that hits just the right Halloween vibe. This also applies to story arcs involving Maul, who defied death to become one of the most terrifying villains in the franchise to date. Speaking of iconic baddies, don’t forget to also enjoy the H.R. Giger homage episode “Lair of Grievous,” focusing on the titular ruthless general himself.
One particular standalone episode in season 2 of thebrilliant animated anthology seriesStar Wars: Visionsalso fits the bill. “Screecher’s Reach” tells its own Irish folklore-inspired ghost story of a young girl facing her fears. But its poignant twist ending may be the scariest aspect of it all. So maybe something a little more light-hearted would be a good palate cleanser afterward. That’s where the kid-friendlyLEGO Star WarsHalloween specials and shorts come in. But that’s about as light-hearted as things get, with other offerings including the haunting VR gameVader: Immortaland several more comics like Charles Soule’s recentStar Wars: Dark Droids.
Finally, it wouldn’t feel right to finish off the list without mentioning therecent ending ofAhsokaseason, which prominently featured a legion of undead stormtroopers between the heroes and their goal. If zombies as theStar Warsequivalent of nazis isn’t Halloween-appropriate, then clearly some wires got crossed somewhere. Either way, that’s a solid list of ominous offerings for fans to sink their teeth into as the leaves get browner and the days get darker.
