With the successes of cozy games likeAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsand farming sims likeStardew Valley, it is not surprising to see big video game development companies producing their own projects within the same genres. This is likely why Square Enix revealed its new farming sim titleHarvestellain the most recentNintendo Direct in June 2022. Now, the Japanese company gives an update aboutHarvestella, providing the community with new gameplay details and in-game screenshots to build excitement for the title.
When Square Enix revealed that it was launchingHarvestellawithin this year, not much detail about the game was unveiled to the public. Viewers of the Nintendo Direct were treated to an announcement trailer that simply showcased stereotypical features found infarming sim titles like theRune Factoryseries. This includes managing crops and farmland, socializing with NPCs, and dungeon crawling with monster battles. With the latest update from Square Enix, gamers get a deeper sneak peek intoHarvestella, which will likely influence their decision to purchase the title when it is finally released in November.

In an official blog post shared on the Square Enix website, the team revealed a mix of new story and gameplay details forHarvestella. Introducing the spring town of Nemea, players will be involved in solving a problem with the town’s Spring Seaslight, which is a crystal that influences the area’s seasons.Farming sim players are likely familiar with seasonsin the genre as this usually affects the type of crops they can grow during each period. Players will also meet distinct Nemea residents, namely Asyl and Istina, who they will get to know better the longer they play the game.
Other new gameplay features that Square Enix shared included a new job class called the Sky Lancer. Much like theRune Factoryfarming sim series, players will have to battle monsters in the game, as well. The blog post also provided details about a player’s daily life, including fishing, the different crops they can grow, and the dishes they can cook with them. A player’s daily life inHarvestellaalso has them socializing with NPCs and going through their Character Story. Completing these will make them grow closer with the NPCs and even gift them with rewards.
It is still unclear ifSquare Enixwill offer relationships and marriage inHarvestella. The Character Story feature does not provide any details about this. Hopefully the developers provide more clarity on these features as farming sim title fans would likely want to know if it will be an available option in the future.
Harvestellais scheduled to release on November 4th, 2022 for PC and Switch.
