Hi-Rez Studios continues to come up with innovative ways to add to its MOBASmite, and its most recent crossover may be the most unique thus far.Smitehas confirmed its latest collaboration with the popular mask-wearing Metal band from Iowa known as Slipknot, bringing band members to the battlefield as existing characters.
SlipknotandSmitehave confirmed that all nine members of the metal band will be playable in the game’s upcoming update, and three of their successful songs will be coming toSmiteas well in its biggest music theme to date. The three Slipknot songs coming toSmitewith this collaboration are 2004’s “Duality,” 2008’s “Psychosocial,” and 2014’s “Devil In I,” and they’ll play during matches in which fans are competing as one of the Slipknot characters. The songs kick in on a rotation based on battlefield action, which makes getting a kill or destroying a tower even more engaging as the familiar Slipknot tunes continue.

Just like with previousSmitecrossovers, the Slipknot one will change a few Gods into the band members, with Poseidon represented by Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, or Craig Jones, Chaac as Jim Root, Alessandro Venturella, or Mick Thomson, and Raijin as Michael Pffaf, Jay Weinberg, or Clown. This will make each trio of bandmates similar to play despite skins changing Poseidon, Chaac, or Raijin’s appearance to reflect a specific person. Like with otherSmitecollaborations such asAvatar: The Last AirbenderandTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, these Slipknot characters may be unlocked through the game’s battle pass, which will be available for a limited time.
Slipknot has been gaining popularity since the band released its first album in 1995, and the band has undergone a few changes along the way from its appearances to roster adjustments.Smitewas initially released in 2014, but the MOBA only expanded into a battle pass system in 2019, with a unique one called “Too Hot For You,” and crossover battle passes joining the game later in the year. Among the other franchisesSmitehas crossed over since areRwby,Avatar: The Last Airbender,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Stranger Things, andTransformers, each offering their own unique rewards.
Although manySmitefans are surprised to see Slipknot join the MOBA, most are pleasantly surprised about the developer thinking outside the box with additional content. Someplayers are speculating that with Slipknot band members joining the battle asvarious Gods inSmite, few franchises are off the table, and even more music may be added to the MOBA in a similar way to “Duality,” “Psychosocial,” and “Devil in I.” While Slipknot is coming toSmitewith its next update, it’s currently unclear how players will acquire the nine new skins for the three Gods or if the tracks are sold separately.
