Aside from a few choice enemies that roam the land,Skyrimis not something that many would describe as creepy, but a fan has found some old gameplay footage on their system that gives the epic RPG a more unsettling vibe. Over the course of nearly three decades, there have been anumber of entries in theElder Scrollsseries, including spin-offs, all of which contain their own stories while taking place on the continent of Tamriel. However, it’s the fifth installment that most think of when it comes to the Bethesda franchise.
After more than 11 years, it would be understandable to think that players have discovered everything there is to discover in the 2011 release. However, fans are still finding new things inSkyrim, be it an Easter egg or an NPC that was hidden away somewhere in the province. While there are things that can be hidden inTES5, one thing that often sticks out is the number of glitches that people happen upon, often by chance.

A recent example comes from Reddit user FearlessSavant, whose recent discovery of someSkyrimfootage unearthed something rather bizarre. The clip, which they say had been forgotten on their hard-drive for around three years, shows a guard acting strange and sliding about Riften. But that’s not the weirdest thing about this. Characters behaving in buggy ways is almost par for the course when it comes toTES5. What makes this clip creepy is the garbled sound coming from the NPC, perhaps as a result of FearlessSavant’s file becoming corrupted. Combined with the way the character moves, it gives the whole scene a rather eerie air.
The aging RPG has had its issues pretty much since day one. In fact, even theAnniversary Edition ofSkyrimhas glitches, some of which are amusing and harmless, while others can have a greater effect on the player experience or even on the game itself. As counterintuitive as it may seem, bugs inTES5are almost what keeps the game so popular, as players share some of the more humorous and weird ones online.
Despite criticisms about the game being in a less than ideal state, even after all these years,Skyrimis still selling well, even being a top seller as recently as mid-2022. Many fans might just be eking out the time untilThe Elder Scrolls 6comes out, so it will be interesting to see whether this next entry will enjoy the same longevity.
Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
