It’s become a running joke that Bethesda has and will likely continue releasingThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimon every platform under the sun. Initially developed for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, it’s since been ported to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox, Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and eventhe Amazon Alexa. The ever-popular action RPG has even received an official board game adaptation.
Of course, ports and adaptions are one thing, but the latest bit ofSkyrimmerch takes things in an unexpected direction. TheSkyrimTarot Deck was created by artist Erika Hollice and game designer Tori Schafer, the latter of whom worked onThe Elder Scrolls: Onlineand theindie battle royale gameSpellbreak. It consists of 78 cards bearing custom, never-before-seen artwork inspired by the game. It also comes with a 128-page booklet describing the meaning of each card and instructions for Tarot readers of all skill levels. Fans who hurry can also buy the limited-edition version from Insight Editions, which includes seven exclusive cards featuring different art and a gold foil treatment. The Special Edition of theSkyrimTarot Card Deck also comes with an alternate red, blue, and black box design.
Examples of the themed cards includeSkyrim’s potential queen Jarl Elisifas “The Empress,” Mjoll the Lioness as “Judgment,” Julianos and his Shrine as “The Hierophant,” the undead horse Arvak as “The Chariot,” and the door to the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary representing “Death.” Meanwhile, portraits of Cicero, High King Torygg, and Paarthurnax decorate the cards for “The Fool,” “The Emperor,” and the “Hermit.” The Special Edition features alternate illustrations for “The Fool,” “The Magician,” “The Empress,” “The Emperor,” “The Hermit,” and “Death.” Among them is a full-body version of Elisif as “The Empress” and a creepy personification of the Black Sacrament standing in for “Death.”
While certainly unique, this isn’t the first time someone portedSkyrimto other mediums. The Skyrim board game was released last year, bringingThe Elder Scrolls 5to the realm of cardboard and dice. One of its campaigns even featuresa prequel story that expandsSkyrimlore, and lets players experience events shortly before the Dragonborn’s arrival. But, of course, that game doesn’t claim to let players predict the future.
Whether one believes in the predictive power of tarot cards or just likes stylized fantasy art, theSkyrimdeck seems like it could make for a unique collectible. Anyone interested can purchase the Standard Edition for $27.99 from the publisher Insight Editions. Meanwhile, the Special Edition goes for $35.99. Fans can also find the Standard Edition for similar or lower prices from other retailers.
