When it comes to the mostunique side questinSkyrim, there’s no denying that A Night To Remember ranks high. It’s one of those quests that completely takes a new player by surprise, and leads them on a wild goose chase to find out what exactly happened during their night of drinking.

Turns out, this is a Daedric quest by Sanguine, the Daedric Prince of all things hedonistic. Lover of booze and parties, Sanguine isn’t exactly a cruel prince but rather just a creature that loves fooling and tempting mortals into reveling. And yet, much remains shrouded in mystery when it comes to the Daedric Prince of drinking.

10The Unique Sanguine Rose

TheDaedric artifactreceived from finishing Sanguine’s quest is known as Sanguine’s Rose. This staff is extremely unique, much like other Daedric weapons and is shaped like an overgrown rose. In earlier lore, it was said that the rose would wither away with each usage.

In Oblivion and Skyrim, the staff would allow the player to summon a Daedric creature to come and help them in a fight. In Oblivion this would only last 20 seconds, but in Skyrim the time was bumped to a minimum of 60 seconds.

9Inspired By A Greek God

Sanguine’s character isn’t as unique as many would imagine. Although among theDaedric Princeshe certainly comes across as bizarre, since he’s not obsessed with destruction and violence like Mehrunes Dagon and Molag Bal, and doesn’t have a specific cause like Azura or Namira, he’s a bit of an outlier.

He very much resembles the character of Dionysus from Greek mythology, the Greek God of wine. As one would guess from his quest, he likes to have mortals drink and revel to their heart’s content, and he doesn’t seem to have a higher purpose other than that.

8Appearances In Select Games

Sanguine is probably one of the Daedric Princes that has the fewest appearances inThe Elder Scrollsgames. So far, he’s only been introduced inDaggerfall, OblivionandSkyrim, where there were quests and/or shrines to his name.

The one game where he remains awfully absent isMorrowind. It seems the Dunmer don’t have a particular view on Sanguine as a Daedric Prince, and their beliefs are very much in line with those of most of the other races in Tamriel. With that, time will tell if he will make it toThe Elder Scrolls VI.

7The Daedric Greatsword Of Scorching

Although Sanguine’s Rose isn’t the best Daedric artifact in the game, there are some uses to it. Five different types of Dremora can be summoned, and while they can’t be looted for Daedra Hearts, if they’re turned into rabbits with the use of the Wabbajack, it’s possible to sometimes find a Daedra Heart.

Most importantly, however, oneDremorasummoned will sometimes leave behind a fairly nice sword: Daedric Greatsword of Scorching. This is a fantastic-looking sword with some extra fire enchantments, and is ideal for any warrior builds excelling in two-handed combat.

6The Meaning Of Sanguine’s Name

Sanguine’s name will be familiar for players who know a little bit of French, as it refers to blood or a spirited person. It also has a somewhat similar meaning in English, and rather than considering blood a bad thing, it implies someone to be lively and optimistic.

This definitely falls in line with what Sanguine stands for with his core values. He’s the patron of all drunkards, who tend to be jolly. Historically, the reference could also mean a type of trickster who excels in mischief and playing pranks.

5Lives In Many Realms

Most Daedric Lords have their own unique plane in Oblivion where they’re known to reside and which can be visited by very talented mages and scholars. However, Sanguine is a bit different in this aspect, since he’s not actually confined to just one realm.

It’s said he has multiple realms, known as the Myriad Realms of Revelry. In Skyrim, it’s possible that the Misty Grove the player is transported into is one of these countless realms that he has personal access to, most likely similarly made for drinking and parties only.

4His Disguise Is A Play On His Name

The beginning of A Night To Remember features a tavern and theDragonborn’snew, unknown drinking partner known as Sam Guevenne. Sam comes across as completely inconspicuous, but the truth is, nothing is really known about it, because he’s not actually a mortal being.

Sam Guevenne turns out to be Sanguine, but this isn’t that surprising when looking at his name. His first and last name are in fact a play on words, and ultimately form the true name he’s most widely known for, Sanguine.

3His Meaning To Khajiit

Although earlier it was stated that most races in Tamriel view Sanguine in the same light, there’s one race in particular that harbors a more unique and tailored view of the Daedric Prince. TheKhajiithave a sperate belief system that comes across quite different from the rest of races, and that includes the position of Sanguine.

Skyrim Misty Grove

Dubbed as Sangiin among the Khajiit, he’s portrayed as something known as the Blood Cat. His purpose is to try and lure the Khajiit with temptations like lust and a promise of immortality, in order to test their resolves. In many ways, he works similarly to the original Sanguine.

2Sanguine’s Height

Sanguine is quite a sight to behold in Skyrim, where he can be met face to face within the Misty Grove. Dressed in full Daedric armor, he looks traditionally Dremora-like compared to some of the other Daedric Princes that tend to adopt more human or monster like appearances.

He’s also always taller than the Dragonborn, no matter what race they choose at the beginning of the game. That essentially makes him one of the tallest characters in the game, aside from any non-human monsters or other creatures.

1Summoning Sanguine

According to what is found out during the events ofOblivion, Sanguine’s summoning day is on the 16th of Sun’s Dawn, at his unique shrine. However, those who wish to summon him outside of that specific date can simply make an offering to his name, at his shrine.

Sanguine will accept Cyrodiilic Brandy as an offering, which further plays into his role as someone who enjoys all things drinking.
