Summary
The Sims 4isn’t the type of game that has bosses, yet one player seems to have conquered the ultimate boss, Death, by killing him.The Sims 4lets players take their custom characters through every stage of life, right up until their deaths, but killing The Grim Reaper was never supposed to be part of the game.
The Grim Reaper made his first appearance inLivin' Large, the first expansion to the originalSimsgame released in 2000. Since then, he’s made appearances in every mainlineSimsbase game, fulfilling his primary duty of escorting dead Sims to the afterlife, but also having some other more lighthearted interactions, such as showing up to trick or treat when a residential lot has at least five jack-o-lanterns. It’s even possible toromance The Grim Reaper inThe Sims 4under the right circumstances.

Killing the Reaper is another story, as it’s not even possible under normal conditions, but one player posting under the Reddit handle Asphalt_Skyrat has shared an image of The Grim Reaper’s tombstone, explaining that their version of the eternal being managed to die in the game, though they’re not entirely clear on what caused it. Trying to make sense of how this happened, the player claimed the embodiment of death showed up to ferry away another dead Sim’s soul and reasoned that one of the other Sims on the lot must have autonomously performed an action that resulted in the death of Death. As one commenter pointed out, an icon on the screen shows that the player had installed a mod that gives Sims a murder command, which may explain the Reaper’s death. The player took the tombstone to one Sim’s home lot, where the Reaper now appears as aSims 4ghostthat can be interacted with just like any other ghost.
Killing The Grim Reaper in The Sims 4
Even using console commands, The Grim Reaper is very hard to kill inThe Sims 4without mods. Players can use cheat commands to take control of him, but he can’t catch fire, starve to death, become consumed by emotions, or beeaten by a cowplant, and the most reliable method players seem to have come up with for killing him is to save the Reaper to the game’s library and create a custom Reaper that can die, at which point a new Reaper shows up to take his place anyway.
Since The Grim Reaper is one of the game’s most frequently recurring characters,Sims 4fans have been asking for more death mechanicsfor a long time, and the recent post seems to have once more invigorated this portion of the fan base. One commenter postulated that with the Reaper gone, a random townie would be chosen to take his place and carry out his duties.
