With Halloween just around the corner, there are a slew of studios that are rolling out their spooky updates, many packed with new content or special features befitting of this time of year. Most would expect horror games likePhasmophobiato get a substantial Halloween update, but non-horror titles likeRustdon’t tend to lend themselves to that kind of vibe. However, it hasn’t stopped Facepunch Studios from launching its latest patch, which will allow players to take part in a number of traditions within its open world universe.
The online PvP survival game will be rolling out its Halloween update today, according to a recent report, and comes with a number of things that will keep fans ofRustentertained throughout this period. One of the big things the update brings with it is a candy-hunting mini-game which takes place every two in-game days. Players will have three minutes to collect as many as they can, where they will then be able to open them and reveal some goodies inside. According to the developer, this could be anything from scrap to a weapon, including an M249. This candy-hunting update sounds very similar to the egg hunting mini-game that came with the Easter update.

On top of that, gamers will also be able to get involved in some pumpkin carving. While the game already had carveable pumpkins put into the world back in 2015, these will apparently provide more “robust” carving options. Facepunch Studios is also holding a carving content, in which the winner will receive in-game skins worth around $100 US, or £75, as well as twoRustDLC keys. At the time of writing, there doesn’t seem to be any news outlining how players can enter the contest, but the report states that the developer website should have more details soon.
If that wasn’t enough, this update for thepopular and immersive online survival gamewill also allow people to build their own Frankenstein’s monster. With the new patch, it will be possible to place body parts onto a craftable table, which are already available in test servers, to put together the Mary Shelley creation.
Rustalready received a big update recently, but as mentioned above, this one will be fitting for the October festivities. Even though the game itself is harsh and unforgiving, from rough terrain, wild animals, and aggressive players, the All-Hallow’s Eve patch might provide a brief respite from the in-game stresses of hunting for food, building shelter, and generally avoiding death with some fun little activities.
Rustis available now on PC, macOS, PS4, and Xbox One.
