Earlier in November, a listing appeared on UK retailer Game suggesting that a collection ofPokemontitlescalled thePokemon Master Collectionwas real, and was scheduled to release for the Nintendo Switch in 2021 - adding to a number of otherrumors aboutPokemongames. However, there has also been evidence proving to the collection listing being fake.

According to the listing itself, thePokemongames included in the collection arePokemon Red,Pokemon Gold, andPokemon Ruby. As some Internet users have pointed out, the included games are very specific. For instance, the decision to includePokemon Rubyand notSapphire, or perhaps even the enhanced third version,Emerald, is odd. If anything, including aPokemongame that combines two games into one, or simply both versions by themselves would make more sense.

Another piece of evidence that may suggest that the collection is fake comes Joe Merrick, webmaster ofPokemonnews and information site Serebii.net. According to Merrick, he checked the Google cache for evidence tied to thePokemon Master Collection’s page and wasn’t able to find anything of value. Furthermore, Merrick said the collection rumor startedafter a Twitter account said “people hosting on Mario All Stars would be grumpy with Pokemon.” However, it was later confirmed that thePokemon Sword and ShieldDLC retail bundlewas being discussed.

Finally, taking a look at thePokemonMaster Collection’s description, one can see that it is full of mistakes. For example, Pallet Town and Team Magma are not capitalized, while the word “experience” is spelled as “experince.” Even the word “Pokemon” which is constantly used throughout the listing, becomes lower-cased at one point.

Although it may be natural to have a few mistakes crop up in a listing, the abundance of errors takes away from its credibility given how big an operation Game Freak runs. Simply put, it goes to show how easy it is to make up listings, like with the recentallegedRed Dead Redemption: The Outlaws.

All in all, with the evidence piling up, it may be difficult to advocate for thePokemon Master Collection’s existence. That doesn’t mean a collection will not exist, as there have been other rumors about anotherPokemoncollection being worked on. Additionally, with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade right around the corner, it was revealed thatThe Pokemon Company will have an announcement at the parade. For all fans may know, the announcement may end up being aPokemongame collection, or something similar.
