Although Atlus had previously confirmedPersona 6was in development, there has never been anything publicly revealed about the title, but it seems its internal release date goals may have been delayed. When this was confirmed, Atlus acknowledged there was a lot ofpressure forPersona 6to be better thanPersona 5, a masterpiece in many eyes, and it’s possible this has something to do with it. Again, though, this is just a rumor and should be treated as such.

While hearing of a delay before a confirmed release date or release window may seem odd, it’s really not. Well before any confirmation, studios have targeted release dates or windows projected that they try to stick to. When release dates are public and it doesn’t seem developers will hit this target, that’s when public delays are announced. However, internal delays are quite common where that window is not public and developers, well ahead of then, have to push the project’s potential timeline. This appears to be what’s supposedly happening withPersona 6.

This rumor comes way of ResetEra user Im a Hero Too, who has commented onPersona 3 Remake, Persona 6, and other Atlus projects in the past. It’s impossible to say how accurate this information is, so it’s worth taking with a healthy grain of salt. Someone asked Im a Hero Too if there was any chancePersona 6would release in 2023, with the user responding that there was “absolute zero chance.” For most fans, this comes as no surprise given the complete lack of marketing so far, but the user also added that the project “was delayed internally just yesterday and there is a rough timeframe” that they couldn’t share.

Furthermore, Im a Hero Too couldn’t comment on this as confidently but said that they believe two other Atlus games could release first, possibly includingtitles like Project RE:Fantasy. They said they should know if aPersona 6teaser will appear at Sony’s next show ahead of then, likely related torumors of a PlayStation Showcase happening before E3, but that’s pretty much the gist of it.

While it’s unlikely this rumor is ever confirmed one way or another, it does feel somewhat likely or at least a very good guess anyway. Shifting internal goalposts and release windows is common for any game, and for something with such high expectations likePersona 6,that’s probably double true. Either way, fans can rest assured Atlus has its head down and is hard at work on the next entry in the franchise.
