Resident Evil Villagecould bring back the original version of the Umbrella Corporation, suggests a new report. This may not be the only thing that the game, which fans are also callingResident Evil 8, will be changing in a big way compared toResident Evil 7.
A report by Japanese publication Famitsu and translated by Alex Aniel, provides a deeper look into theResident Evil Villageannouncement trailershown at the PS5 reveal event last month. The publication notes that the Umbrella logo seen in the trailer is an older version that points to the corporation’s past as a pharmaceutical company, and is different compared to the logo of the newer version of the company seen inResident Evil 7.

InResident Evil 7, the Umbrella Corporation has been reformed and now goes by the name Blue Umbrella. The organization is more of a friend than a foe and helps Chris Redfield take down one of that game’s antagonists. If the older version of the Umbrella logo is seen in theResident Evil Villagetrailer, it could mean that the corporation is up to its old tricks and is responsible for the horrors happening in the village.
There have been rumors thatChris Redfield will be the villain ofResident Evil Villageand a decision to turn Umbrella back into an antagonistic force would support that. Chris, as part of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, worked with Blue Umbrella at the end ofResident Evil 7. If Blue Umbrella was somehow corrupted, it’s possible that Chris could have been sucked into a bio-terrorism plot. All of this is speculation but it would make for a compelling story.
Umbrella being evil again could be one of severalbig changes thatResident Evil Villageis makingover what fans saw inResident Evil 7. Prolific Resident Evil leaker AestheticGamer has said thatResident Evil Villagewill feature more action gameplay and more enemy types, which are two things thatResident Evil 7was criticized for.
This is also just a rumor as Capcom has only confirmed a few details about the game, other than what’s in the announcement trailer. One of its reveals is thatResident Evil Villagewill have no load times, so whatever the development team chooses to do with Umbrella, Chris or any of the other characters, fans won’t have to suit through long loading screens to enjoy it.
Resident Evil Villageis in development and set to release on the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
