Summary

The recent remake ofResident Evil 4has already crossed an impressive sales milestone, reaching five million units sold. The game was released earlier this year to strong opening sales and positive reviews from critics. Now the remake ofResident Evil 4has become one of the fastest-selling games in the franchise.

TheResident Evil 4remake was originally revealedin mid-2022. The trailer for the game suggested that the remake would have a darker and more serious tone. While this was certainly true at the game’s start, it gradually became goofier and campier as it went on and was more akin to the original than the trailers initially suggested. Now it appears that this formula has clicked with players as the game has already hit a big milestone.

According to Capcom, the remake ofResident Evil 4has already sold five million copies worldwide after being out for four months, making it one of the fastest-selling games in the franchise. For comparison, it tookResident Evil: Villagefive months to reach that point whileResident Evil 7: Biohazardtook roughly eight months to reach a similar amount. The last game to reach this number wasResident Evil 5which remains one of thebest-selling games in theResident Evilfranchise.

From the start, it was fairly clear that the new remake would be a massive hit for Capcom. Early on, theResident Evil 4remake outsold the GameCube version at launchand cleared four million sales in the first two weeks. The game has also been incredibly well reviewed on Metacritic with the average scores hitting the 90s across multiple platforms. It is also likely that these sales will continue to climb as the publisher isn’t quite done with its latestResident Evilremake.

Early on it was clear that Ada Wong’s storyline in the game would be sold as DLC. Her story was originally made available to players after they had completed the main game and detailed what she was up to while Leon was trying to rescue Ashley Graham and how she helped him from a distance. Leaks from Capcom have suggested that theSeparate WaysDLC forResident Evil 4will be releasedsometime later this year. If so, it is possible that the game could see a new surge in sales around that time and may become one of the best-selling games in the franchise before the publisher moves on from it.

Resident Evil 4is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
