TheRed Dead Redemptiongames developed by Rockstar are considered by many players to be the quintessential examples of the Western genre for video games. The games themselves are vast open-world stories that allow the player to immerse themselves in thehistorical fiction ofRed Dead Redemption’s world. Something the games do well is balance between the real-world practices of the era, and the stylized cowboy tropes that players will expect from a Hollywood style Western.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s open world allows players to pick flowers, care for horses, or do menial chores at the camp. Whereas theRed Dead Redemption 2’s missions have train robberies, standoffs, and many more exciting moments taken directly from iconic Western films.

Red Dead Redemption 2was also inspired by famous Western filmsin the design of the key art used for the game’s cover and other promotional material. The bold character designs on red backgrounds are emblematic of the posters and title cards from classic Western movies likeThe Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Now a Reddit user named Sether has shared a custom Xbox One background inspired by thisRed Dead Redemptionkey art.

The Reddit user shared two images, firstly the background by itself for anyone that wants to save it for themselves and transfer it onto their Xbox One, and a second image which shows how it looks as a background on the console.Backgrounds for the Xbox One and Xbox Series Xconsoles are difficult to design, as a lot of space is taken up by large tiles that represent different games and apps. The only piece of screen real estate left in which to show full images is above the tiles in the top right side of the screen.

Cleverly, the Reddit user has measured out these tiles so that four ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s main characters are seen extending up from each tile, along with the game’s title card. The image on its own looks quite barren, but once it is set as an Xbox One background it fills the space nicely. The Reddit user has also placed accentuating black squares to sit behind the player’s gamertag, the most recently used game or app, and the icons in the top right corner.

Xbox fans have also remade classic backgrounds from the Xbox 360for the Xbox One and Series X, although the consoles currently offer no way of changing the layout of the menu so that a larger image could be visible as a background. Fans also hoped for dynamic backgrounds to be added to the Xbox One similar to those found on the PS4, but it wasn’t until the Xbox Series X that this option would become available.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
