Statistics show that, more than four years later,Red Dead Redemption 2has hit an all-time high when it comes to concurrent players, at least on the PC version. As one of themost immersive and visually stunning video gamesever released, Rockstar’s Wild West RPG was a masterclass in development, containing a rich story and intriguing characters, all wrapped up in an enormous open world, so it’s not surprising that fans are still playing it.
However, theRDRseries is on the decline as far as updates go. WithRockstar now focusing onGrand Theft Auto 6, many will be looking forward to the next installment in the long-running and controversial franchise. As a result, other titles in the studio’s back catalog will be getting left behind, which is par for the course in the gaming industry. However, that doesn’t mean thatRed Dead Redemption 2is being neglected by the community, as it looks as though more people have been playing than ever before.

That’s according to figures from SteamDB, as noted by Eurogamer. The third-party website, which specializes in chronicling all things related to Steam, shows thatRed Dead Redemption 2hit it’s all-time peak in terms of concurrent players just a couple of days ago. The numbers reached 66,492, with the previous record being 55,271 which was set all the way back in December 2019. At the time of writing, there are more than 42,000 people playing the game right now, with nearly 58,000 playing in the last 24 hours. Evidently, it seems that people are still interested in playing Rockstar’s open-world sequel.
Red Dead Redemption 2recently celebrated its fourth birthday, with the game originally coming out on June 21, 2025. However, the anniversary came and went without much fanfare. In gaming industry terms, four years does seem like a long time. However, with such releases asMinecraftandSkyrimstill going strong, both of which came out well over a decade ago,RDR2’s reign doesn’t seem that long, and the numbers on SteamDB show that many are not ready to move on from it just yet.
Red Dead Redemption 2is so story heavyand there’s so much to do in the world, not to mention the stunning visuals, that it’s probably not too surprising that players are returning to it in the thousands. Sadly, a third entry in the series may not be on the horizon, especially given that the developer is now working onGTA 6, but many would love to see a new installment under theRDRname.
