Next week, the latest game in the long-runningRatchet & Clankfranchisewill debut on the PlayStation 5 in the form ofRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart. There have been numerousRatchet & Clankgames since the series first debuted on the PlayStation 2 back in 2002, and in celebration of the new game as well as the franchise as a whole, Sony has released a video showing how it’s evolved over the years.
The video starts by showing gameplay of the very firstRatchet & Clankgame on the PlayStation 2 in a room withRatchet & Clankposters on the wall. Anyone that remembers getting the originalRatchet & ClankPS2 game will recognize the posters as having legitimately come in the box, like the one that shows off all theweapons that Ratchet and Clank are able to collectin the game.

TheRatchet & Clank: Rift Apartvideo then transitions to 2007, showing gameplay of the franchise’s debut on the PlayStation 3 as seen inRatchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Not only do players get to seeRatchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destructiongameplay, but the room that it’s taking place in evolves as well. The tube TV that was used to play theRatchet & ClankPS2 gameis upgraded to an HDTV, and the shelves are filled with moreRatchet & Clankmerchandise.
The next transition takesRatchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destructionand goes to the franchise’s PS4 debut. While there were numerousRatchet & Clankgames released for the PS2 and PS3, the series didn’t have quite the same presence on the PS4. The onlyRatchet & Clankgame built specifically for the PS4 was the2016Ratchet & Clankre-imagining, which retold the story of the original game.
Finally, the video jumps fromRatchet & Clankon PS4 toRatchet & Clank: Rift Aparton the PlayStation 5, and the room is upgraded to include evenmoreRatchet & Clankmerchandise, with figures of various characters the duo have met on their adventures now adorning the walls. The TV in the center of the room shows someRatchet & Clank: Rift Apartgameplay that Sony has showcased in the past, but then zooms in to give fans a closer look, showing Ratchet, Clank, andnew playable hero Rivetin action.
This video is a nice way for fans to remind themselves just how far theRatchet & Clankseries has come, and the thing is, it didn’t even touch on the many other games that have been released for the series over the years. Whether or notRatchet & Clank: Rift Apartwill be another quality addition to the franchise’s sizable legacy remains to be seen, but fans will find out when the game launches next week.
