Many fans eagerly awaitFrostpunk 2’s release, and alongsideThe Alters, it will be one of 11 Bit’s first new in-house games since 2018. However, it’s unclear exactly how long fans must wait. While the developers have confirmed a 2024 release window, hammering down an exact month is tricky.
When Frostpunk 2 Might Come Out
11 Bit Studios held an investor conference on Jul 25, 2025. Among the information provided was that the studio considers 2023 and 2024 “Years of Delivery.” This means the 12 months from Summer 2023 to Summer 2024 would see 11 Bit prioritize releasing new games rather than focusing on growth and operational changes. The conference included Design Director Jakub Stokalski providing an overview ofFrostpunk 2’s development.
The presentation revealed thatFrostpunk 2had playtests in April and June and thatthe colony sim’sprimary features were in a playable state. At the time of the conference, developers were focused on implementingFrostpunk 2’s campaign and expected to reach Alpha status in Autumn. Stokalski closed out his presentation by confirming that the studio hoped to releaseFrostpunk 2in the first half of 2024. He also said that development was progressing on schedule, though only 11 Bit knows if that’s still true.
Frostpunk 2’s Gameplay Preview
The Design Director also said a gameplay reveal would come in early Autumn. While there was no public showcase, 11 Bit offered media outlets apreview ofFrostpunk 2at the start of October, which revealed quite a few exciting details. For example, instead of starting with a generator and just a handful of workers and engineers,Frostpunk 2starts players with a completed city center. Instead of constructing one building at a time,Frostpunk 2players expand by developing entire new districts.
The new game also takes place over a much longer timescale, withFrostpunk 2taking place over decades instead of weeks. Politics are also much more essential and fleshed out in the new game, with citizens forming different competing factions. They all want what’s best for the city but disagree on what that means and how to get there. It’s the player’s job to balance these conflicting desires while also contending withFrostpunk 2’s resource management mechanics.
Notably, this preview means that 11 Bit Studios has so far fulfilled their promises on time. Hopefully, this indicates that, as of early October,Frostpunk 2’s development was still proceeding as planned. Assuming that nothing significant has or will go wrong, it seems very likely that 11 Bit Studios will hitFrostpunk 2’s 2024 release window.
Predicting Frostpunk 2’s Release Date
Making specific predictions this far out is dangerous, but it’s possible to make some educated guesses about whenFrostpunk 2might finally be released. For example, Creative Assembly previewedits controversialTotal War: Pharoaha little over five months before releasing it in October 2013. While that is a different game from a different studio, five months after theFrostpunk 2preview would be March 2024, around the middle ofFrospunk 2’s current release window.
Meanwhile, 11 Bit Studios revealed the firstFrostpunk’s release date in a trailer about a month before launch. If there was a highlikelihood ofFrostpunk 2releasing in January, the studio probably would have said so by now. One possibility is that 11 Bit is waiting until after the Christmas season dies down to start ramping up its promotion of the game. If that’s the case, there might be a proper gameplay trailer in late December or January, with the game releasing at least a month or two after that.
Of course, this is a lot of speculation based on very little evidence. Still, given what 11 Bit Studios have shared aboutFrostpunk 2so far, a March or April release date seems significantly more likely than one in January or February.
