One starter that seems destined for meme territory is the Water starter Quaxly. It’s not because of the Pokemon itself, it’s mostly its hair. Comparisons have already been made betweenQuaxly and Josuke from the animeJojo’s Bizarre Adventure, given that they both have pompadour-style hair. Now, Reddit user KailunLao has made aDuckTales-style drawing featuring Quaxly, featuring Huey, Dewey, and Louie from the series. Their expressions and mannerisms from the art gives anyone who has seenDuckTalesthe idea of whom each Quaxly is.

Like the starters in mostPokemongames,Pokemon ScarletandViolet’s starters are the subject of speculationas to what their evolutions will look like, and what their types will be. Until then, fans are just enjoying the new Pokemon designs, and coming up with all sorts of art and memes to express their feelings towards these new Pokemon. Quaxly has been an easy target because of its hair, but there’re a lot of cat lovers out there who are enjoying making art of Sprigatito, the Grass starter that closely resembles a cat.

ThePokemoncommunity has been wrestling with the concept thatPokemon ScarletandVioletwill finally be open-world, even if the impact of an open-world game was dulled somewhat byPokemon Legends: Arceus. WhilePokemon Legends: Arceusis not really open-world, it is open enough for most people, and enough of a departure for the series that a sudden announcement of the next generation has been dulled for many.

Cynics out there will say that these games coming out the same year asPokemon Legends: Arceus, as well as being part of the next generation that some aren’t sure they want yet, might lead to the same problemsPokemon SwordandShieldhad. It will still be a few months at least untilPokemon Scarlet and Violetget released, so there’s still lots of time left for speculation and discussion aboutPokemon’s ninth generation.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill be released in late 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
