AlthoughPokemon GOplayers don’t know many details about the event yet, therecently datamined Throwback 2020seems like it’s going to be a major celebration. The little that the community has been able to uncover about the event through recent datamines suggests that it will be a celebration looking back on the first four generations of Pokemon that has been released for the mobile AR game.
The Throwback 2020 event has not been confirmed by Niantic yet, but that doesn’t mean players aren’t already getting excited and theorizing about what the event will bring. The most recent datamine offered some new details that confirm that festivity is going to bring with it the longest Special Research activity to date forPokemon GOplayers to work through.

As always, note that information gathered in datamines is not official, has not been confirmed by Niantic, and is subject to change or be removed altogether. With that disclaimer out of the way, a new datamine uncovered some code related to the Throwback 2020 Special Research. The details revealed that will be a nine-part quest for each of the four generations, coming together to create a massive 36-part story arc.

This is one of the longest Special Research assignments thatPokemon GOhas ever delivered and it will be very exciting to see what sort of story it delivers and how enticing the rewards are. It seems very likely that this event is meant to help playerscomplete as much of their existing Pokedex as possible, so expect some rare and valuable rewards to be a part of both the special event spawns and the encounter rewards for working through each generation’s nine-part epic.
At this point, the datamines still haven’t revealed any hints about when the event will arrive or how long it will last. Hopefully some official word arrives from Niantic in the near future to setup this massive event.
