Summary
Pokemon GOfans have been experiencing glitches that makes it look like their character is being bullied by Team GO Rocket. While the glitch thankfully doesn’t seem to have a negative impact onPokemon GO’s gameplay, it’s funny to see.
Pokemon GO’s Team Rocket gruntstypically lurk around PokeStops and generally don’t pose too much of a threat to established players. However, even high-level players would likely pause if they found themselves in this situation, which it seems that several trainers have.

Pokemon GOplayer Yo_Mama_The_Llama shared a screenshot of their character in the game, being “bullied” by Team GO Rocket members. The image shows their trainer surrounded by a ridiculous sixteen Team GO Rocket grunts, who are all staring at the player stuck in the middle of their semi-circle. The OP says that this used to happen to them every time they started the game about a year ago. This correlates, as another user posted a similar image a year ago, though theirs wasn’t quite as extreme.
Another player, infernalzeus20, also recently shared their experience of being “bullied” by Team GO Rocket members. Their experience is even worse, as they were surrounded by 19 Team GO Rocket grunts. While some fans have pointed out that the grunts are much weaker thanTeam GO Rocket Leaders, and a high level player could probably defeat every one of them, it’d probably make most players at least do a double-take.
Why are Pokemon GO Trainers Getting Surrounded by Team Rocket?
This bug is apparently short-lived. Players report that this happens upon booting or restarting the game, and that after a few short seconds, the Team GO Rocket grunts all teleport away. While there’s no official explanation from Niantic as to why this happens, it’s likely that the game spawns all NPCs in the same area as the player when the game starts, and then assigns them tolocal PokeStopsonce the game has fully loaded. However, the title doesn’t usually show this set-up phase, so players don’t usually get to see themselves facing off against a dozen or more grunts.
Thankfully, as far as bugs go, this one doesn’t have a negative impact on gameplay and might provide a chuckle. The same can’t be said of otherPokemon GObugs that have impacted gameplay, like a recent update that players believe madecatching Pokemon harder. WhilePokemon GOremains a popular title, chances are fans would prefer to see fixes for the more pressing issues than this.
