Niantic’s attempts to keep its AR mobile gamePokemon GOrelevant in the wake of social distancing guidelines due to the coronavirus pandemic have been mostly successful. The title continues to see content that’s more accessible from home, even allowing players to vote for its featuredJune and July Community Day Pokemon, but now fans of the long-running RPG series have something huge to look forward to in the form of Unova’s box art Legendary Pokemon.
Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem — the faces ofPokemon Black,White, and their sequels respectively — will be making their way toPokemon GOas five-star raid battles in the near future according to a news post put out by the developers today. Reshiram will appear first between Tuesday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. PDT and Tuesday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. PDT, so it has been recommended that players “have yourRemote Raid Passesstocked” before then.

During this time period, Reshiram will also be featured more frequently in Raid Hour events “every Wednesday,” so players should be on the lookout for this Legendary Pokemon between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in their local time on May 27, June 3, and June 10. The developers say players should “stay tuned for more info on when Zekrom and Kyurem will be making their way to Raid Battles” inPokemon GO.
While the mobile game has already featured other Unovan Legendary Pokemon likeTerrakion in Raid Hour Events, the box art Legendaries forBlackandWhiteversions making their “Pokemon GOdebut” is no doubt exciting for players who have stuck with the experience since 2016. There’s no word as to how — or if —Pokemon GOwill utilize Kyurem’s ability to fuse with Reshiram and Zekrom as of yet.
With the introduction of these new Legendary Pokemon, arguably the pinnacle of the Unova Region’s totem pole, it seems increasingly likely thatPokemon GOmay venture into Generation 6with Pokemon from Kalos sometime soon. That said, it’s difficult to know whether the developers will prefer to save that event for when quarantine procedures around the world begin to loosen up.
In the meantime, being able to capture Reshiram from the comfort of one’s own home is an exciting prospect, especially with the knowledge that Zekrom and Kyurem are on their way. Fans can also expect other content to be put into the game, like with a recent brand dealincorporating UNIQLO clothes into the shop.
