Shiny Pokemon have been an expectation in thePokemonseries since the release of Gen 2, but Game Freak switched things up further with the addition of regional variants inPokemon Sun and Moon. With regional variants slowly becoming a new staple, manyPokemonfans have created their own iterations of existing Pokemon, including an alternate appearance for Tentacool and Tentacruel.
Reddit user Priremal recently shared four images of their idea for a futurePokemonregional variantof Tentacool and Tentacruel, swapping their Poison and Water typing for a mix of Electric and Fighting. Priremal’s version of Tentacool and Tentacruel vary drastically from the original Pokemon’s design, and they offer a contrasting color scheme as well, making it stand out as its own Pokemon in a way. In addition to the remade Tentacool and Tentacruel, Priremal also introduced a new Pokemon to the constantly growing lineup that joins the Tentacool family known as Tentaiduel, which may be Priremal’s idea for a second evolution for Tentacool.

Each of Priremal’sPokemonregional variants for the Tentacool evolution line is adorned with Samurai masks, one notably being based on anOni Samurai mask. The three Pokemon have red masks that match their helmets, while the normally red spots that poke through the head of the existing version of Tentacool and Tentacruel are void in this regional variant and have been replaced by a starry night design, which makes the trio of Pokemon more mystical than in the original one. Priremal’sPokemonfan art uses yellow as a highlighting color for Tentacool, Tentacruel, and Tentaiduel, specifically in the smaller details of the Samurai masks.
Priremal got their inspiration for creating their Tentacool and Tentacruel regional variants from their desire for more Fighting andElectric-type Pokemon. Beyond the Samurai-inspired design and the color scheme changes, the typically Water-type Pokemon has similarities to its origin. Perhaps keeping some things as a base design so thatPokemonfans don’t confuse Priremal’s Pokemon as entirely unique, tentacles still fittingly flow from the Pokemon’s heads, including with Priremal’s third Pokemon Tentaiduel, which joins the other two like how three Diglett come together to create a Dugtrio.
Because Priremal’s Tentacool and Tentacruel regional variant stems from a lack of Electric and Fighting-type Pokemon, thePokemonfan may create a few more designs utilizing unused type combinations. SomePokemontype combosthat haven’t been spotted across the series include Bug and Dark, Ground and Fighting, Normal and Ice, and Ice and Poison.Pokemonfans have celebrated Priremal’s Tentacool and Tentacruel regional variants as they have their Tauros, Staryu, Nidoqueen, Paras, and Venonat designs in the past.
