A particularly creative and talentedPokemonfan is garnering plenty of online attention for their impressive idea of a regional variant for Trubbish. The fan drawing of the unusual Gen 5Pokemonlargely stays true to the creature’s original form, while adding some thoughtful details to create a rather interesting prospect.

For those somehow unaware,a regional variant Pokemon- also known as a regional form - is an alternate form of a Pokemon species that can be found only within a specific region. These variants nearly always have a noticeably different appearance than their contemporary counterparts due to the enivronment which they hail from, and have different typing as a result.

The fan-designed regional variant of Trubbish comes courtesy of Reddit user u/the_elastic_band, who has posted their impressive creation to one of the site’s mainPokemonforums. Instead of being a purely Poison-type, the regional variant of the Generation 5 Trash Bag Pokemon is given more of an eco-friendly makeover, becoming a dual-type Ground/Poison. Inspired by compost and soil microbes, the variant Trubbish features a very different color palette, swapping green and gray for tan and purple. This Trubbish also has a happier expression than the regular version, as does its evolution Compossus, a regionalvariant equivalent for Garbodor.

While Trubbish may be on the rather obscure side in terms of popularity, other fans have also come up with more regional variant ideas for the Pokemon. Last year, aPokemonfan designed a clever Trubbish regional variantplaying off of a commonly-seen trash problem. Reddit user Magikapow created a version of Trubbish based on discarded plastic bags floating in the wind. The regional variant has the Pokemon made from a translucent bag, cleverly giving it Flying/Poison dual-typing. A variant Garbodor is included as well.

While the compost and soil microbe-inspired regional variant of Trubbish is certainly impressive, it isn’t the only well-designed variant from the fan. The artist has also recently createdRock/Fairy-type regional variants of Sandshrew and Sandslash. Again taking inspiration from specific sources - this time from geodes and the pink fairy armadillo, the regional variants sport a similarly brighter and lighter color palette as the Trubbish and Garbodor above. The artwork is indicative of an ongoing trend in thePokemonfan community, especially considering the lack of new variants inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Although Trubbish and many other Gen 5 Pokemon aren’t available inPokemon ScarletandViolet, the fan-favorite generation could be re-entering the spotlight soon.PokemonBlackandWhiteare due up next for a remake, withScarletandViolet’s Kingambit and Volcarona Paradox formsa positive indicator of whatPokemonplayers can potentially expect.
