Summary

A creative and artistically talentedPokemonfan has come up with a rather interesting regional form for Octillery, and is showing off their design online. The new fan-made form not only gives the classic Gen 2 Water-type an additional typing, but also a near-total overhaul of its color scheme in addition to a few other changes.

Pokemonfirst introduced the concept of regional forms - initially referred to as regional variants - during the series' seventh generation with the release ofthe Alolan forms inPokemon SunandMoon. Uniquely adapting to their respective environment compared to where its species naturally live elsewhere in the world, regional form Pokemon have distinctly different appearances, typing, moves, abilities, base stats and more. There are currently 57 different regional forms across 54 different Pokemon, although none have the typing of the fan-made regional form of Octillery.

The unique piece ofPokemonfan art comes from Reddit user EliDwebster, who posted their creation to one of the site’s primaryPokemonforums. While keeping the structure of the body mostly the same as the original, the artist gives their regional form Octillery an exotic makeover, replacing its red skin with a bright purple along with stripes and swirls of a light blue. A Water/Steel dual-type, the Octillery’s head has what appears to be steel streaks across it, along with some kind of eroded brim in the back.

Additionally, the regional form also sports head spikes, and appears to have a bit longer tentacles than its standard counterpart. The image also teases a new Hidden Ability called Soldier’s Creed, although an explanation for it or the backstory for how the regional form came to be isn’t available despite the caption. This isn’t the first time thisPokemonfan has cooked up a design for a regional form, designing both aregional form and a new evolution for Smoochum. The Smoochum and its evolution feature a neutral earth tone palette, far tamer colors than the Octillery.

Beyond a regional form, anotherPokemonfan has come up with quite thecreative Paradox form for Octillery. Opting forPokemonViolet’s futuristic Paradox form designs, the Pokemon - named Iron Turret - is a Fire/Water dual-type that excels in accentuating Octillery’s tank-like features, including a much more overt turret-like mouth and military helmet-style head. While this and the above Octillery’s design differ in many ways, they both curiously accentuate the bumps on its head into spikes.

As seen with the Smoochum and also witha new evolution for Chimecho, the artist posts in-depth explanations behind the design choices of their Pokemon.Pokemonfans are hoping the accompanying explanation makes its way onto the post sooner than later.
