Summary

Hailing from Generation 2 ofPokemon, Celebi received a more human-like look compared to its “onion fairy” design, as named by fans. The creator of the art shared how this most recent piece brings their Johto Region arc to a close.

The Fairy and Psychic-type first appeared inPokemonGold and Silveras a Mythical Pokemon. Residing in a shrine deep within the Ilex Forest, players who complete the Virtual Console version ofPokemon Crystalcan catch the “Time Travel Pokemon” for themselves. While Celebi is also playable in other games, the Pokemon is only available when a specific event is running. This has caused the Pokemon to be unobtainable in older entries through legal means.

This humanoid version of Celebi, otherwise known as a fictional gijinka, comes courtesy of endifi on Reddit. They have made similarJohto Pokemon in this human style like Larvitar’s evolutionary line. Matching the source material, hues of green are complimented by hints of blue and a light complexion. Elf and fairy inspiration is apparent as the hair is reminiscent of an elf cap along with pointed ears and larger wings, while black circles around Celebi’s eyes are replaced by black eyelashes or eye shadow. The cutesy smile and demeanor are the least changed part of the piece compared to official art.

And this Celebi comes with some fairy friends dancing in the wind, a contrast to howPokemontends to only feature one of each Mythical per game. Other fan creations such as ananimation of a singular Jirachi launching through spaceon repeat illustrates this. All in attendance wear similar clothes, with one sporting pink and red colors similar to a Shiny Celebi. One in the bottom left of the piece looks to be a leader of sorts, donning a petal crown and flower scepter.

Endifi took to the comment section to thank viewers for their support over the two years it took to make all the Johto gijinkas. Other Pokemon from Johto have been given different kinds of love by other artists such as anancient Lanturn swimming through the depths of Hoenn. While users gave the artwork upvotes and words of praise, one Redditor critiqued the creator’s use of humanization as anthropomorphization instead. This is the use of giving nonhuman characters or objects human traits. Specifics aside, this rendition of Celebi is a mythical sight to behold.

With the completion of Celebi’s human-like form, endifi will continue this series of art with the Hoenn Region. They have let fans of their work know that posts may slow down to catch up with the rate they have been producing fan art for every Pokemon. As Hoenn is endifi’s favorite setting in thePokemonuniverse, they hope everyone will be just as excited for what’s to come. A different artist used Reddit to shared Hoenn’sMythical Pokemon Deoxys as an Electric and Psychic-type. Endifi’s next piece of art will most likely be Treecko, the “Wood Gecko Pokemon,” based on the artist’s track record, so Deoxys will most likely have to wait until the end of the Hoenn Pokedex.
