APokemonfan artist created eleven different flags for the various regions that each generation of the main series took place in, with two flags for the Unova and Paldea regions each. ThePokemonfan artist then shared their handiwork with other trainers and briefly explained what inspired the designs of each region’s flag.

Throughout thePokemonseries, the games' regions are based on real-world locations across the globe. In the first four generations, various parts of Japan were used as the basis for Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Starting withPokemon Black and White, each generation’s region drew inspiration outside Japan, with the Unova region based heavily on the New York metropolitan area. ThePaldea region ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetwas based on the Iberian Peninsula that the nations of Spain and Portugal call home. By comparison, the land of Kitakami saw a return to a Japanese-inspired region, and the Blueberry Academy was located off the coast of Unova.

With eachPokemonregion hosting various birdsand regional variants, onePokemontrainer created several flags for each generation. On Reddit, aPokemonfan artist named Deltarts created 11 regional flags and shared their work on the r/pokemon subreddit. The first two screenshots of their presentation showed all their flags labeled for each region, from Kanto to Paldea, and the second picture provided explanations for their designs. The Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh flags drew inspiration from the different prefectures and cities each region was inspired by. For the Kanto region flag, Deltarts said the indigo flag color referenced Indigo Plateau, and the triangles above and below the Poke Ball seal were similar to the Tokyo metropolitan flag.

Pokemon Fan Creates Detailed Flags of Each Game Region

With the Unovan flags, Deltarts made one black and one white design to match each game version, based on the New York City and Washington DC flags. The Kalos region’s flagfeatured a Floette patternin the middle to represent the Honor of Kalos award. The flags of Alola and Galar featured colors prominent in each region, with the four Alolan islands represented as stripes. The flag of Galar was drawn from the colors of the Union Jack and the Galarian Pokemon League. Like the Unovan flags, the Paldea region ofPokemon Scarlet and Violethad two version-exclusive flags, with the oranges and grapes swapped out in the middle seal.

Some Pokemon trainers praised Deltarts for their attention to detail. Between these regional flags, and the efforts ofPokemonfans to remake regions in different games, it remains to be seen what creations will be made next.
