The year was 1999.Pokémon Snapwas released on Nintendo 64 and players were thrilled to have a new kind ofPokémonexperience. This wasn’t just a “catch them all” game. This was an opportunity to see these strange, wonderful, mysterious creatures living and interacting with each other. This was the chance to conduct research on Pokémon, and capture them on film. The gaming world ate it up.

Since then, 21 years have passed, and there was no sign of players ever getting that opportunity again. Then, con June 01, 2025,Pokémonannounced asequel, and once again the gaming world was immediately ecstatic. However, while we wait for the announcement of an actual release date, speculation is running wild. The trailer gives us some wonderful hints into what the game will include, but fans want more. Here are 10 things that have players excited about thePokémon SnapSequel.

10The Updated Roster

The original Pokémon Snap was a Generation I game, and as such, it only had some of the original 151 Pokémon in its lineup. However, we can see from the trailer that recently dropped, Pokémon such as Primarina and Scorbunny will be making appearances in the new game.

This confirms the game will havePokémon up to Generation VIII in its roster. This is extremely exciting to see, as the newly expanded roster will make the entire experience of capturing their image all the more interesting.

9Seeing Old Friends

BelovedGeneration I Pokémonare still going to be available in the game. While it is amazing that this game will have Pokémon up to Generation VIII on the roster, it will be great to also see our old friends. Players are excited at the possibility of seeing Pokémon return from the first game having more life breathed into them thanks to the updated models.

The trailer already showed us some favorites, such as Dodrio, Pikachu, and Pidgeot, all of whom look fantastic. Other fan-favorite Pokémon such as the starters, Gengar, and Lapras could also make appearances.

8The Scenery Is Stunning

Judging from just the one minute of footage seen in the trailer alone, this is a gorgeous game. The colors are vibrant, the environments are stunning, the animations are incredibly smooth, and the models of the Pokémon are on point. To say this is a massive upgrade from its N64 predecessor would be the understatement of the century.

The new visual style should make the photos players take look all the better. Bandai Namco has done a fantastic job of making this world look amazing, hopefully, other aspects of the game will be just as good, if not better.

7A New World To Explore

The originalPokémon Snapprovided a variety of areas for the player to explore with their camera. The locations in the original game included: a lovely beach, a dark tunnel, a dangerous volcano, a calming river, a vast cave, an adventurous valley, and even an outer space adventure.

All of this simply has players dreaming of more. What other areas await us in the new game? Some unused location archetypes in the sequel could include a haunted area, a snowy area, some ancient ruins, and a whole myriad of other creative locales.

6Online Play?

Online multiplayer gaming has become commonplace since the original Snap was released.  Players have begun to expect it in some way, shape, or form now.

So if this game even has an online mode, what can we expect from it? Two or more players being sent to the same map to compete to see who can be the better photographer?  A cooperative mode of some sort, where all players must work together at once to take the best pictures? Something new and entirely different? The possibilities are fascinating.

5Who Will Be Our Mentor?

Speculation is running rampant over subjects the trailer does not cover. One subject being discussed is good old Professor Oak. Will he return from the original game as our mentor? Will we see the return of Professor Oak? Is it perhaps Professor Magnolia, the researcher from Galar in the latest Generation?

This might end up being a completely different journey. Maybe the player is on their own this time. This could simply be about taking your own camera safari and discovering a new world. Maybe the player is now expected to have evolved enough to document the world on their own, but we’d rather the game bring back the professors.

4Special Shots

One of the most interesting things about the originalPokémon Snapwas the special conditions that could be met to take more interesting photos. Occasionally, you could even get hiddenPokémonto appear.

There were tasks such as having to snap a Digglet 3 times for a Dugtrio to pop up, luring a Pikachu to a surfboard with some apples, or having to take a picture of aJigglypuff3 times to get a concert performed by a trio of Jigglypuff at the end of the Cave level. What new opportunities await players in this new adventure?

3How Much Of The Main Series Will Be Included?

Something else that the trailer doesn’t show is if there are any other humans around. Fans are excited about the possibility of others joining in, whether they be trainers, rivals, or allies. Is it reasonable to expect some cameo appearances of any major human characters from the main series? Could we see someGym Leaders, past protagonists, or perhaps even a few villains show up in various places throughout the new game?

They could fill a role as additional models for the pictures, or maybe even characters in a story mode. It may be a spin-off title, but there’s always the opportunity for some love of the main series making its way into this game.

2Signs

One of the more bizarre mechanics present in the original Pokémon Snap was the mysterious “signs” hidden in each level. The player was required to have taken pictures of them all by some point very late in the game.

This was the component required to unlock Rainbow Cloud, the final area, and most importantly, the habitat of theLegendary, Mew. Unquestionably, Mew was the most challenging Pokémon in the game to find and photograph. Is the new game going to contain Signs or will players have to do something else to unlock the final area?

1Items

Items were a very important part of the original game. The trailer shows that the apples are back, but what about every other item? Pester Balls were used to stun Pokémon to help you maneuver them into posing for the photos.

The Dash Engine allowed the Zero-One to move much faster, allowing you to catch up to shots you would otherwise miss. Let’s not forget the Poké Flute, which played happy and soothing music for the Pokémon to fall asleep or dance. All of this created fun situations for taking pictures. It would also be great to see some new, original items to freshen up the experience.
