Pokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers have recently pointed out how frustrating following the game’s optimal path can be.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetbreak new ground as the first truly open worldPokemongames ever, setting players loose in the Paldea region and letting them go off in any direction they desire. But whilePokemon Scarlet and Violetgive players a massive open world to explore, they also have clear objectives that players need to complete if they hope to finish the game.
There arethree main storylines inPokemon Scarlet and Violetspread out across the Paldea region. These objectives can technically be tackled in any order that players desire, but the lack of level-scaling means that it’s fairly easy for Pokemon Trainers to find themselves in a battle they’re not quite ready for yet. The lack of level-scaling has also made it so while players can technically complete the game in any order they want, there is an optimal path they can follow for the best chance at success.

Unfortunately,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s optimal path can be confusing, as it has players bouncing all around Paldea. As pointed out in an image recently shared to Reddit by user SakN95,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s optimal path may be the best way to complete the game without needing to grind levels, but it’s still not entirely ideal. For example, one objective has players all the way in the southwestern corner of the map to fight the Psychic-type gym leader, while the next one has players traveling to the exact opposite end to take on theIce-type gym leader.
This means some excessive traveling forPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers that want to follow the optimal path through the game, though there are ways to alleviate the frustrations a bit.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfast-travel should go a long way in cutting down on the time it takes to get from one objective to another. Of course, it all depends onPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers looking up the optimal paththrough the game, which means those who don’t will still likely find themselves in battles that they are clearly not ready for, and not really through any fault of their own.
Thelack of level-scaling inPokemon Scarlet and Violetwas a hot button topic prior to the games' launch. If Game Freak decides to produce another open worldPokemongame for the next main series entry, one has to imagine that level scaling will at least be considered, as it would go a long way in alleviating some of the problems players have with the games.
