Though thePersonaseries marked its 25th year anniversary last September 2021, it seems that Japanese developer and publisher Atlus is continuing the celebrations until 2022. Throughout the latter half of 2021, the company announced several collaborations and activities within Japan, leaving its western audience with not much to go on. However, it seemsPersonais now ramping up excitement by announcing new merchandise based on the older titles. This includes the news thatPersona 2andPersona 3will be getting Nendoroid figures produced by Japanese toy brand Good Smile Company.
Since thePersona25th anniversary announcement, it seems Atlus’s main focus for the festivities is centered on marketing new figures or re-producing previously sold out ones. Fans are likely overwhelmed with the many figures announced last year, including the re-release of GSC figma action figures,newPersona 5Lucrea statues, and even new GSCPersona 5Pop Up Parade static figures. However, given that it is much easier and cost-effective to produce merchandise than develop another title in the franchise, it is not surprising for Atlus to go this route for now.

On Twitter, the English account of Good Smile Company released photos of Nendoroid figure prototypes featuring the protagonists ofPersona 2andPersona 3. ForPersona 2: Innocent Sin, the main character Tatsuya Suou was the first Nendoroid announced, followed by themain female lead inPersona 2: Eternal Punishment, Maya Amano. Shortly after, the Nendoroid photo of the male lead ofPersona 3, who is only named “Hero” by the Twitter account, was also shared on social media.
All three Nendoroids that have been announced have no details on their pre-order periods and price range yet. However, fans will likely notice that only themain protagonist ofPersona 3is actually holding any accessories in their prototype figure. This may indicate that thePersona 3Nendoroid’s production may be much more advanced than those fromPersona 2. With Atlus starting with the main characters of older titles, this also bodes well for fans of the other characters in these video games.
Even though fans likely appreciate all these newPersonafigures being produced by Atlus, there is still the glaring absence of news about a new title in the series. Whether Atlus is waiting for a specific time period in 2022, or really has no plans to add a new video game into the franchise, the fanbase is likely still holding onto hope that official news will be shared by the company soon. Hopefully before the series hits its 26th anniversary this coming September 2022.
