The Book of Boba FettandYellowjacketsstar Sophie Thatcher recently revealed that her little-known science fiction film,Prospect, which also happened to star the internet’s favorite father figure, Pedro Pascal, almost got a sequel series.
Prospect, released in 2018,stars Thatcher as a young girl, Cee, who travels with her father, Damon (Jay Duplass), to mine gems on a poisonous moon. Recent Hollywood and internet phenomPascal (The Mandalorian,Game of Thrones,The Last of Us) plays the role of Ezra, a rival prospector. After her father’s death, Cee allies herself with Ezra, and they escape, despite Ezra’s serious wounds.

According to Thatcher in a recent interview withInversepromoting herupcoming filmThe Boogeyman,Prospect’s ambiguous ending left much room for a possible sequel, which was initially planned by the creators, Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell. While the film did not make huge waves upon its release in 2018, it became a cult favorite when it streamed on Netflix in 2020. Thatcher says, “I remember before Covid, the writers and the directors were talking to me about maybe writing a TV show about it, and using Cee when she’s older…And I was like, Yeah. I love all of them so much I would be so down for that.”
Thatcher praised theProspectproduction team and described working with Pascal as one of her best early experiences in Hollywood. ”That was like honestly the best first experience I ever could have had and set the bar really high for me," Thatcher said. “And I just want to do more movies that feel like passion projects and everybody on that set, because it was a smaller budget, maybe people weren’t getting paid enough, but everybody was still very adamant on making a good movie and knowing this movie was special.” Thatcher also said of her co-star Pascal, “I learned a lot from just watching him.”
WhileProspectis not currently available to stream anywhere but Amazon, the film is getting new attention, with both of its stars later starring in more notable projects, includingPascal’s huge popularity as the ultimate franchise actorin HBO’sThe Last of Us, where he plays Joel, a survivor helping to ferry a teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the country under threat of fungus-spawned zombies. Thatcher stars in the upcoming Stephen King adaptation,The Boogeyman,andYellowjackets, which is wrapping up its 2nd season this week on Showtime. Thatcher plays teenage Nat in this strange story of a group of girls who survive a plane crash and resort to cannibalism.
WithPascalandThatchergaining high praise as actors in the horror and sci-genre, the possibility of a revisit toProspect’s storyline would no doubt generate great interest amongfans ofThe Last of UsandYellowjackets, with both series serving as top draws for their respective platforms Max and Showtime.
