Fighting a sniper is always a tricky proposition, andOverwatch 2’sWidowmaker is dedicated to precise, long-range kills that rely on perfect timing. OneOverwatch 2player, also using Widowmaker, pulled out a moral victory in a sniper duel using a perfectly timed emote. Due to the pixel perfect timing required to pull off this trick, other players should not try to use emotes in the middle of a firefight, as nine times out of ten it will end poorly. Thankfully, this clip shows the one out of ten result.
Widowmaker is described by Blizzard as the perfect assassin (even though a briefOverwatch 2bug said support), and the developer made sure to give the character the right tools for the job. Her customizable Widow’s Kiss gun can go from assault mode to a long-range sniper rifle, allowing the Russian assassin with a spider motif to engage from any distance. Traditionally, Widowmaker players will use the sniper rifle and grappling hook to find a good perch and provide long-range fire support for their team.

Unfamous123, insisting with tongue in cheek that the emote was part of the plan, posted the clip to Reddit. A perfectly timed “Rest” emote allowed Unfamous123’s Widowmaker to duck just in time to avoid another Widowmaker’s perfectly aimed sniper shot. No amount ofOverwatch 2aim assistcould curve this shot to make contact once Unfamous123 started the emote.
The emote timing was perfect, with the missed sniper shot going right where Unfamous123’s head was just a second previously. Scoring a kill on the opposing Widowmaker is the icing on this satisfying cake. Due to the difficulty in timing the various animation, unexpected methods to victory usually involveOverwatch 2ultimatesand not emotes.
As otherOverwatch 2fans mentioned in response to the video, missing a shot because of a “Rest” emote had to have been incredibly frustrating. Some commentators mentioned only ever using Widowmaker’s “Curtain Call” emote, while others preferred her “Ballet” emote. With nearly 2k upvotes, gamers appreciate the display of incredible skill and not, as alluded, accidentally hitting an emote in the middle of a firefight. If only theOverwatch 2voice chathad been recorded during this moment to catch everyone’s reactions to what was, again, a supreme display of skill and not just sheer luck.
