As some players and content creators get their initial taste ofOverwatch 2inside its first beta, they are learning just how impactful the hero reworks are and the potential synergy they bring to the table. Two heroes undergoing major reworks in the sequel areBastionand Orisa, both of whom have been given near-full reworks from the ground up. The potential synergy between these two bots was seen by two players who, during one game, show just how devastating the heroes' ultimates are in-tandem.
Overwatch 2is the sequel to Blizzard’s 2016 competitive multiplayer hero-shooter,Overwatch, which pits players against each other with a roster of colorful and powerful characters to choose from. The sequel picks up shortly after the game’s titular team reunites amid rising battles with hostile Omnic forces and the growing reach of the criminal organization Talon.Overwatch 2will offer a competitive multiplayer experience similar to the first game, though with teams of five compared to the previous title’s six and restricted to one tank character. In addition, an expanded PvE option to be released later featuring story-driven missions and Horde-style Hero missions.

As mentioned above, players have been getting their first taste of the multiplayer changes inside the closed beta, testing out character reworks and the team re-balancing.Twitchstreamer VenexOW highlights both of these in a clip from his first day in the beta, coordinating an end-of-the-match push with his teammate playing as Bastion. VenexOW can be seen rushing the opposing team as they try to hold back the payload from reaching the end when he activates Orisa’s ultimate, Terra Surge, on the objective to pull in four members of the opposing team. His teammate then uses Bastion’s ultimate, an artillery strike, to eliminate the four players trapped by VenexOW.
On the one hand, this is the kind of synergy many players will want to see between the hero reworks and new abilities. It was fair to question just how some of these characters were going to play between these reworks in combination with the overall changes to match setups.Orisa, in particular, has been getting a major spotlight thanks to the substantial rework she received, with several YouTube videos breaking these down in-depth.
However, it would not be surprising to see some veteran players have flashbacks to theoriginalOverwatchbeta ahead of the 2016 release, where Bastion was notoriously overpowered. The first playable iteration of the robot was infamous for its deadly sentry turret mode, which also had a personal shield. If combos like the one pulled off by VenexOW continue popping up during the beta, players shouldn’t be surprised to see these altered versions of Orisa and Bastion get significant nerfs before the full PvP component goes live.
Overwatch 2is currently in development for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
