Summary
Caribou is an interesting character who has been used by Oda very carefully in the story leading up to the final saga. Introduced in the story after the two-year timeskip, Caribou has had quite a lot of interactions with the Straw Hat Pirates on very interesting occasions. Having been introduced on Sabaody, he has gone on quite a lot of adventures in the New World ever since, and now, he appears to be finally on the cusp of his goal, which is, to join the Blackbeard Pirates and become a lackey of none other than the Yonko, Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard.
As was mentioned inOne Piecechapter 1107, Caribou has very interesting intentions, and while it might not look like it on the surface, his role as a member of the Blackbeard Pirates could actually help Teach fulfill his dream of world domination.
Caribou’s Inspiration To Becoming A Pirate
Caribou’s pirate journey began with his brother, Caribou, and together, they set out on an adventure to become pirates. When they were kids, their grandmother told him to always stick together and have each other’s back, and that appears to have been some sort of inspiration for them to work together towards achieving their goals. Caribou and Coribou captain the Caribou Pirates, and on Sabaody Archipelago, this crew wanted to join the Fake Straw Hats as their bounty was above 70 million berries. Caribou, at the time, had a bounty of 210 million berries, which is incredibly impressive for a new rookie pirate. Having hunted down Marines aggressively, it is no surprise for the fans to see his bounty being that high.
Back on Sabaody, it wasn’t actually revealed to the fans why Caribou wanted to become a pirate. However,in the Egghead Island arc, specifically inOne Piecechapter 1107, it was confirmed to the fans that Caribou actually wanted to become a pirate to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Blackbeard. It appears that, at some point in his life, Caribou was inspired by none other than Blackbeard. This was likely during the Paramount War, when Blackbeard took the center stage and was broadcasted all over the world. It appears that Caribou decided then that he wants to be a pirate just like him and meet him in the New World. If luck is on his side, Caribou wants to become a subordinate of Blackbeard and work with him.
Caribou And The Ancient Weapons
Caribou asked Caterina Devon and Van Augur to take him to Blackbeard inOne Pieceafter 1108. Although, initially, they might refuse, these individuals might consider taking him to Blackbeard, given how much information he holds. Caribou’s biggest asset to Blackbeard might not be insurmountable strength, but instead, he can offer him the knowledge that no one else can. Fans must remember that Caribou holds knowledge around 2 Ancient Weapons. The very first weapon that Caribou heard about was Poseidon, and this was back on Fishman Island. Caribou traveled to Fishman Islandwith the Straw Hat Piratesand there, he attempted to kidnap quite a lot of mermaids. Later down the line, he also ended up kidnapping Shirahoshi, only to fail in the attempt. Caribou was beaten by the Straw Hat Pirates heavily, and that ended his villainy on the island. However, it did not end before he heard the information of Shirahoshi being the Ancient Weapon Poseidon and the power to destroy the entire world.
Similarly,in the Wano Country arc, Caribou, who was, at this point, beaten by Kaido’s crew, found his way to Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates again. He even aided Luffy towards the end and promised that he would never follow the wrong path again. Of course, Caribou was lying, however, at the moment, it did not matter to Luffy. At the end of the arc, Caribou found out more information about the ancient weapons. This time, he found out about the ancient weapon Pluton, thanks to the information being shared between Sukiyaki and Robin. Caribou now holds access to quite a lot of incredible information that can shake the entire foundation of the world.
Immediately upon hearing this information, he once again made it clear that he wanted to take this info to a special someone, which, in One Piece chapter 1107, was revealed to be Blackbeard.
Caribou Meets Blackbeard
Caribou has already requested a meeting with Blackbeard inOne Piece, and it appears that this meeting will most definitely end up happening. Given that both Devon and Augur are currently headed back to the Pirate Island, Caribou will go back with them to the island and hopefully, meet Blackbeard. Once Caribou meets Blackbeard, he is likely going to be put to the test, however, given that Blackbeard has been his idol his entire life, he would likely pass this test. Then, Caribou will give a Blackbeard the juiciest of information pertaining to the ancient weapons. This would mean that Blackbeard would be aware of the existence of both Poseidon and Pluton, and their exact locations.
Blackbeard would then set his sights on these places, likely starting with Fishman Island, where Shirahoshi rests. Fishman Island is an easier place to take on and gain the power of the weapon from, and thus, Caribou will essentiallyset Blackbeard on the path of even greater power.Fans must remember that Blackbeard himself wants to be the King of the entire world. For world domination, one would need the power of the Ancient Weapons. If Blackbeard manages to acquire two of the ancient weapons, then he’s going to be utterly unstoppable. Even acquiring one would make him a force to be reckoned with, and, thanks to Caribou, he can potentially fulfill his dream.
Caribou As A Member Of Blackbeard’s Fleet
For helping Blackbeard as much as he is going to, Caribou will certainly deserve a gift from Blackbeard and this will be in the form of him joining the fleet officially. Caribou will notbe a member of the Blackbeard Pirates.This is because all the 10 Titanic captains are already booked and there is no more space left on Blackbeard’s own crew. However, he can be a part of the ship of any of the Titanic captains, or, lead his own ship as an ally of the Blackbeard Pirates.
Fans know that Blackbeard himself has a fleet, as the Pinkbeard Pirates were allied with him until recently. Similarly, Caribou will likely be allied with him now, and fly under his flag. This would then set him up for a very intriguing fight against Luffy’s biggest fanboy, Bartolomeo. Essentially, Bartolomeo is to Luffy what Caribou is to Blackbeard, and that makes a confrontation between these two individuals almost inevitable.
